Thanks all! I pulled the trigger. Over-analyzed all night long. Figured I better just do it!
The breakdown/justification that did it for me was essentially:
1. Varlamov for Reimer
2. Caufield for Yamamoto
3. Laine for 2022 1st round pick(15 overall) and 2020 2nd round pick(35overall)
1. Might have lost out a bit on this, but gained a Mrazek/Reimer tandem. Also reduced cap hit and term with Reimer.
2. Yamamoto is playing now and doing well at the moment on the 2nd line in EDM with Draisaityl. That and the pipe dream of him getting the chance with McDavid at some time is hard to trade away. Both are similar players in stature. Caufield is two years younger. I am hoping Caufield has a bit more upside. If they turn out being even and a wash, then worth it. The Caufield hat trick last night after negotiating this trade just seemed to be ironic as well. LOL
3. I get a 21 year old proven scorer in the NHL for a 2nd round prospect that will take several years to make it(if at all) and a 2022 first round pick that is probably at least 4 years away from any relevance.
Plus, I took a shot at trying to better my team to win this year and next.
This was not even close. Well done
Good job. I'd tend to look at the deal as Laine vs Yamamoto & Caulfield versus the picks, and that's crazy good.
