I have owned him in 3 of my 4 keeper leagues for ages. Been trying to figure out when to trade him for assets, but might just ride him to the bitter end and then rebuild. I just can't quit him.

I am here as well. I will just assume he will keep scoring 50 until he doesn't. And with this total somewhat in reach, I can't see him heading back to Russia in his late 30s (as was once kind of expected).

I remember an interview over the summer where he very slyly avoided answering the question directly.
that little gleam in his eye let you know that he's thought about it more than once.

Ovie has totally revamped how he trains in the offseason to stay lighter and faster. His shot hasn't suffered.
he's one of the most durable power forwards in the history of the NHL.

I say yes... not only that... but I say he leaves 894 in his dust.

Interesting note... that no one is talking about.... he's 16 PPG from breaking Dave Andreychuks NHL record of 274 ... (258). That should happen in 2021/22

I think it will be awfully tough, but I hope he does. Gretzky has a lot of nearly untouchable records, but it would be amazing to have a non-NA player own this one for sure!

I voted no but I would love to see it happen. There are just too many variables that could prevent it from happening for me to say yes. Regardless of whether he does it though, he's the greatest goal scorer of all time, hands down, no questions asked.

I think it’s too far but I’m pulling for him. Considering the lockouts, the era, I think he already has to be considered the greatest.

Anyone competing with a Gretzky record would be must watch TV. Even if he doesn't get there, I think most of us just hope we get to watch something that special.

Knowing Ovi, it will come in a game where he's like 3-4 goals off the record and he gets it the game before people thought it was going to come.

I really just hope the record breaking goal, if he breaks it, is from his spot.

Ovechkin is the one who decides if this record is broken. He can keep playing until it happens. His production will begin to decline at some point but he'll still be plenty productive.

i doubt he does. Just cause i don't see him playing till he's 40. but i do think he's the greatest goal scorer of all time. compared to his peers though gretzky is by far the best.

The fact were having this discussion IMO puts Ovi on the mount Rushmore of hockey. He's a legend of the game. Wayne, Mario, Orr, Howe add Crosby and Ovi from our generation, To be continued on McDavid.

Below are all the positional players who played into their 40s... a decent amount of them from the modern era. I don't see why Ovie shouldn't be able to do it...

If we assume he gets 20 more goals this year he'll finish the year at 712 - 180 short of Gretzy's record.

Dude is 34 years old - so here are some scenarios that would land him on the record. With some luck health-wise, I think it's totally doable. I would bet on him doing it before 40 too.

    50/50/40/40 - 38 years old
    45/40/35/30/30 - 39 years old
    30 x 6 - 40 years old
