Fair enough. Still going with Roy although that does bridge the gap.
And I don't know what "being a Canadian" has to do with anything...
It would be cool to see Ovi pass Gretzkys goal totals. Even if he does I wont consider him the most productive goal scorer in the league. I feel that goes to Mario, I may be I the minority that feels that if Mario hadn't missed the time he did that he would have beat Gretzkys record.
Yes Lemieux’s injury history was unfortunate. But the fact remains that he was not a durable player and therefore does not belong in any debate involving actual production. You may feel Mario was the most talented goal scorer in the league. But he was by no means the most productive.

I was expecting to see an Ovi goal yesterday somehow even though the Caps didn't play last night.

This is a good point that does not get brought up enough. The cancer diagnosis was horrible and very unfortunate. The rest of the injuries and missing time because of it is all part of the equation. Durability is an overlooked attribute when comparing greatness of players. Just the ability to get out of bed and go to work day in/day out is super important. It's like having a very good employee 4 out of 5 days a week. Just doesn't cut it.
People shouldn't be penalized because they can play longer and be healthier in their careers. Just to add to that, Ovi plays a very hard style of hockey which makes it even more impressive.

Longevity matters. Body of work matters. It takes a lot of work, skill and discipline to stay healthy while maintaining an elite level of performance for that long.
There's tons of players who have 2-4 really productive seasons and fall off.
I love that these discussions come up all the time and have all of the same responses. It will never be agreed upon, but that's what makes it fun.
