    Default D question

I got offered Ellis + 4 in 2020 for my Q Hughes, or a 4 in 2020 and 6 in 2021, from the team in first place. They have Ellis out, and need to catch up on games and likes Hughes. Of those 2, I prefer the futures deal, and here is why. I got offered Yandle by a different team for a 5 in 2021. So effectively I could go from Hughes to yandle, I downgrade from a 5 to 6 in 21, but gain a 4 in 2020, and I’ve already got an extra 3 in 2021 so 5 picks in first 5 rounds still. Ellis has a concussion so who knows when he’ll be back/how he’ll be coming back. Yandle hasn’t been doing great past 15 or so but Hughes has slowed down too, but both in good situations. So it would leave me with the following:

    2020: 1, 1, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7
    2021: 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8.

and my rookie carry over would be Samsonov instead of Hughes. I can also wait until the offseason to figure this out, but at the same token getting a 4 in 2020 ensures I get some value for a rookie, plus I still get a solid vet d to replace him for ROS. I believe binnington was sold for a 5 after his rookie season because that team had 2 rookies to pick from.

To get yandle for a lower round pick would make moving Hughes more appealing, because free agent market is light. I’m currently in 3rd place, 3 teams basically fighting for last 2 money spots (3-4). Is it worth gambling on Samsonov already? At worst he’s in a time share but he’ll still get a good amount of fantasy pts, he has 76 in 18 this year and Hughes 77 in 47. And as much of a stud as Hughes is, he’ll still be assist heavy, and of the 2 I’d think he might have more growing pains because he’s not as seasoned in pro hockey. The team in first is stacked keepers wise with Kane, pasta, Pettersson, MacKinnon, so I don’t love stacking him further with a stud rookie, I’d rather move him to a weaker team but weaker teams
Aren’t looking to move picks either, and either way this top team is sharp and does well year to year. And also I’m 80 pts back so not very likely I catch him. This team has Demko and zadina as rookie options already, but Hughes would help him for ROS where he’s losing games right now, and he would likely carry him over too.

In regards to waiting till the off season, there are always teams looking for a good rookie, so I’d just be chancing finding a trade partner and getting a decent return. Worse comes to worse I carry Hughes over who was my original plan and drop Samsonov; but I’d rather move 1 and get value and keep the other. And who knows, maybe in draft next year I’ll be able to grab a guy similar to Hughes this year I didn’t draft Hughes, got him in a trade but you get the idea. Just so happens getting offers on Hughes now, and no one has asked about Samsonov but Hughes gets talked about a lot in the media. Also want to add I’m at 50 games played goalie wise, and in first by far so I’d move Samsonov if could get equal or better value, or like I said can stand pat and do this stuff after season. Just see yandle as a good replacement option if I do move Hughes and take chance on Samsonov, but don’t have to do anything yet.
