Any current team running an interim coach? Or any other coaches on the hot seat? Cuz... Gallant won't be unemployed long.
He's still under contract through next year with Vegas. They could always release him though of course.

Vegas NHL rankings in advanced stats:
    xGF%: 2nd (54.84%)
    CF%: 3rd (53.59%)
    FF%: 22nd (53.65%)
    SF%: 3rd (52.98%)
    SCF%: 2nd (55.38%)

    PDO: 28th (0.985)

They are closer to one of the best teams in the NHL than a team needing a coaching change. In September they were discussing an extension with Gallant. Nuts how it changes.

    Ummm.... What?

Not sure if the firing or hiring is more bizarre. Vegas is on a 4 game losing streak but this is a guy who has seen unworldly results.

The next question is Gallant to coach Seattle or does he take another NHL job (Montreal) before Seattle can get him?

That team has overachieved from day 1 under Gallant. Incredibly surprising firing.

It’s a shame to have to say this because Gerard Gallant is such a good person full of respect and humility. But for those asking, this was entirely performance based.

I think DeBoer is a better coach but I also don't understand why Vegas fired Gallant as he has worked very well in Vegas.

Apparently McCrimmon was not happy with their performance as they should be leading the division, but that has more to do with MAF's play and not a great back up than coaching... sory of how DeBoer got fired in the first place

Umm... did you read the title of this thread? They did release him. He's still owed the $$ on his contract but just like DeBoer & Hynes - he's free to sign anywhere as of today.

Gallant's approach of balanced lines and not leaning on stars has fallen out of favor. The Leafs did it under Babcock and the Canes under Peters, and look where they ended up. The mindset of NHL brass seems to be that top talent needs to be played into the ground, and anyone who thinks otherwise probably isn't long for this world or will have a tough time getting hired.

Vegas changed their team identity since they entered the league. At first they were fast, high-effort underdogs. Now they're vet-heavy and definitely not as fast.

You figured with what he did 2 year ago with scraps that he wouldn't have to worry about his job for at least 4 years. Seems very strange.

DeBoer & Hynes were only free to sign becuase Wilson and Shero let them out of their contracts.

GM Kelly McCrimmon addresses the media: “It’s hard to put into words unless you’ve done these jobs. It’s just the feeling you have that a change might be needed. We thought about this a lot, it certainly wasn’t something we did in haste.”

Seattle also now has another fantastic option with very obvious expansion experience.
