    Default Yamamoto vs. Batherson

I have top pick in my waiver draft this Friday (I traded for the pick)

and I am trying to choose between Yamamoto and Batherson who are both available.

I'm in a salary cap league and both these prospects are cheap this year and next. Our scoring system counts goals, assists, with bonuses for PP, shorthanded, shootout goals.

I'd like to pick the player who will help me the most now but also long-term. I suppose my question will probably be answered with the mid-season guide out on Friday but I thought it was worth a shot posting this.

Dobber's 2019-20 guide shows them close in Long term upside (77 Batherson and 82 Yamamoto).

On frozentools it's only a small sample of 1 and 4 games each but Batherson did get PP time whereas Yamamoto hasn't.

I'd appreciate any thoughts before Friday.

    Thanks!

Batherson is going to become a top option in Ottawa with Tkachuk.

I'll have to disagree with Dobber here as I prefer Batherson both short and long term.

    Great question!!

To be honest i have nom idea.

Yamomoto has 3 in 4 and seems to be clicking in an L2 spot so I added him in the same situation. That being said Bathersons AHL numbers are unbelievable and that league is generally a very good indicator for NHL success. With Duclair out there is a juicy role essentially just sitting there.

I guess it depends. If youre contending and you need to maximize the points out of a "sure thing" Id say Yamo is closer to that. Im kind of hoping for a 50-55ish point pace out of him and organic development from there. Id say Batherson is likely the boom/bustier pick of the two. He could take the job and explode out of the gates- or he could futz his way back into the A.

I think Yamo is up for good now and will be working on his consistency. If you cant afford a dead roster spot hes your guy.

I think drake is more of a wildcard- if you are re-building or have a deep bench where a forward or two ends up sitting a lot of the time anyways id maybe roll the dice on his fantabulous upside.

i chose yamo here but will be keeping tabs on this thread for other opinions.

I prefer Yamamoto, but the lack of PPP hurts as you mentioned. The Oilers 2nd pp isn't exactly star studded so you have to think he gets a look on it at some point. He's gotta establish himself as an every day NHLer first. There is some risk to both short term - I think both stick but you never know.

Immediate production is Yammo. Next season I would say Batherson will edge him out though and long term is Batherson as well.
