I never fully bought into Dallas, but I would have had SJ and TOR in my top 10.

Gotta think this can only help Martin Jones.

I picked Dallas to win their division.
I was meh on SJ... mainly due to Jones & EK not being EK.

A few may have had Cgy near or just inside their top 10 as well .

Yes, Burns needs to get going but this team wasn't going anywhere imo. Their forwards are good, not great. Their 2 best defenceman are mostly offensive. Burns is -20. Their goalies are decent but not great. They lost their best forward in Pavelski and replaced him with Marleau. Joe is just too old and worn down.

I don't' think this coaching change will change their fortunes.

re: Deboer. I actually feel a bit bad for them. I don't think SJ has signed the right players.
Even with his age, Joe Pavelski (for 3yr x $7m) is a better player than Evander Kane (for 7yr x $7m).
And then they went and signed Erik Karlsson with an already strapped-cap-team, Meier AND Labanc still to sign at that time.
The only REAL difference between last year's team and this year's was the loss of Pavelski... and it shows.
SJ GM should be canned... and so now he (Doug Wilson) has to make a move to buy himself some time.

IMO, Boughner is NOT a better coach than Deboer.
(And I should like Boughner... he's got close ties to Windsor/Tecumseh, coached there for 8 years, won two MemCups... I also liked Deboer who played his OHL with Windsor for 4 years. Go Spits!!)
FWIW - Boughner was behind the bench with SJ a few years ago.

SJ just messed with good chemistry trying to hand out several long-term contracts and strike while the West was ripe for the picking.
The Western Conference IS (make no doubt) up for grabs between 7-8 teams. There's NO frontrunner... and we saw this with STL emerging last year.
I don't think SJ has the offense or defense to make the jump up to the Western playoff teams, though.

I know defensive system is a large contributor to your goalies, but Jones is a large reason this team is being held back. I don't know what the issue is with him, but he's fallen off the last 2 yrs:

2016-2018:
125GP, 65W-45L-12OTL, 2.47GAA, 0.913s%, 75QS (60.0%)

2018-2019:
88GP, 48W-31L-6OTL, 3.02GAA, 0.895s%, 35QS (40.7%)

This firing will kick the players in the butt, but it'll be a pure "honeymoon" adjustment. It won't last.

Whats even worse is looking at their prospect pool. There's not much coming down the pipe for futures to help this team going forward.

16% of the coaches in the NHL have been fired this year. Detroit, currently on a 12 (!!!) game losing streak and a -62 goal differential, is not one of the teams in that 16%. That is wild.
