Default Driedger the real deal? (REP)

    Hey all,

Had another GM interested in acquiring Driedger from me for a 2nd rounder, he's just chilling in my minors right now. Wondering what the deal is with him? I know nothing about him but don't want to let the next Binnington go.

Thanks as always and will rep wherever I can!

If someone wanted to give me a 2nd round pick for him, I'd take that in a heartbeat.

If you can't let go of a fringe prospect in fear that he becomes a 1 in a million breakout player then you'll never get anywhere in fantasy hockey.

I'd pass on that. While you are rebuilding, you have a very tight cap limit in a huge (30 team) dynasty league. A cheap NHL backup has significant value in a 30 team league with a $58 million dollar cap. If he sticks in the NHL this year as the backup, which looks likely, his value should go up.

It looks as though there are 600 players + some very large number of prospects rostered, probably another 20 per team, so that's a 2nd rounds in an entry draft that is going to be 40th or later, most likely, which is a complete crapshoot.

The guy has bounced around for how long. He had a great first start, most probably b/c teams play hard for the back up and because teams don’t have video of him. Once it gets around his flaws will he exposed. This was a huge “wake the eff up” call to Bobrov. Grab the draft pick and don’t look back.

Take the draft pick. Driedger will be back in the AHL in short order. He's never been that good and that's not likely to change.

Whoa, hold up... This is for a 30 team cap league. Goalies in this format are incredibly hard to come by. I'm not saying "don't trade him", but having a goalie who is lighting up the AHL and now playing for an NHL team has to be move valuable a trade chip than a pick. What does the Bobrovsky owner have as his 3rd or 4th goalie? Is it an upgrade on Driedger?

It depends... if you are a top 5 team in your league... take the small upgrades where you can.

If you are NOT a top contender in your league... I'm holding Dreidger, if I'm you.
It's very true that only 1/10 AHL goalie call-ups pan out to anything.
And let's say you can get a 2nd rounder (in a 30-team league, that's a 45th overall pick, on average) for each of them.
Or... you can hold them all for Boom/Bust... have 9 bust... and find one Binnington... or Hellebuyck... or Talbot... or Raanta.

Rebuilding teams don't win fantasy leagues by stockpiling 45th overall talent. (45th overall entry-picks is a 1in3 shot at being anything, anyways)
You win fantasy leagues with ELITE talent.
Until you HAVE that ELITE talent... you play to try to acquire it... or hope it pans out by luck... no better luck rolls than goalies.

Age25-30 goalies is a good risk to take, IMO.
*Some* hit a great mental maturity around that point where they stop being nervous about every game and just play.
It can be like a light switch for some of these guys... and it's impossible for any of us to see it (internally).
There is a *chance* Dreidger switch went on at some point in last 3+ years. The sv% suggests it may be there.
