    Thanks for all the replies.
Wife will be happy for the research.
Looks like the artificial tree is the most popular!!!

We just put up our 6'-1" real tree on Sunday.
Looks great, smells great with all the past year's ornaments (all different, no repeaters)... but $55+tax for the tree was tough to stomach.
Now the cats are in full "knock this shit off" mode with whatever they can. Super.

How do people decorate their tree?

Do you make it all matchy matchy? Or do you have nostalgic ornaments so it's a hodge podge of stuff?

I do "nostalgic". Every vacation I go to, I try and pick up a new ornament. Then there's Leafs, Jays, Raps, Hockey, and other stuff going on there. It's always fun putting up the trip ornaments because you get a flash back of your vacation.

Family tradition started by my mom when I was about 10. I would get a small unique ornament made of wood. She would write the year on the ornament. This continued until I was about 30 and my mom passed away. I have continued the tradition with my wife and kids. Along with some relatively new coloured glass ball ornaments the rest are one of a kinds collected through the years. My wife and I also purchase a Christmas ornament from our travels, Hawaii, Vegas, Arizona, Cuba, Alaska, Ireland, Scotland.....

As an only child, with an extended family of an aunt who never had kids, I used to have to do or help with a lot of trees: mom, aunt, various girlfriends who lived alone or when we were cohabitating, sometimes trees at work, plus my on, it got tiresome. There were years I figured that I spent about 50 hours putting up decorations, and my house took maybe 2 hours, and nobody ever really came over except for my mom.

I got divorced, then my mom & aunt passed away, so I didn't even do a tree. I miss decorating it some years, but I let my cousins have most of my aunt's decorations - still have some from family. Now engaged & cohabitating, but while she has a artificial tree, it's too much work for her to do tht with me, so either I do it, or it doesn't get put up. So it stays in the box.

If I had kids, I'd probably do something.

I do got a friend's place for a festivus celbration every year.

We head to a locally owned tree farm to cut our tree down. Family tradition for the past 15 years - that's as long as we've been together...

As a kid we'd just cut one down from somewhere on the property.

we have this little 2.5 foot fake tree that my wife decorates nicely . its placed above the floor on a shelf area that seperates kitchen / living room area . if you were driving past my home you would think it was the upper half of a full size tree because of the illusion it presents due to what you cant see lol

The wife decorates the tree, as nobody can decorate it like her - and it is true. MY try would look like Charlie Brown Xmas.

Ok, so I have 2 artificial trees now - the one in my man-cave has only sports-related ornaments, even the simple round “balls” are billiard balls, numbered 1-15. Golfers, hockey memorabilia, 3 Stanley Cup rings.....

Upstairs, I was allowed to carry the tree up but put no ornaments or lights on it - g/f said I should stick to surgery - so after she finished all the decorating, I put the single “surgeon” ornament up, front and center. LOL

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

It's funny how common the "wife doesn't allow me" narrative happens lol. I remember as a kid it was a big thing for the full family to do it together. Then it slowly turned into my mom saying I was doing it wrong and I got fed up with it and just stopped doing it. Started up again when single, and now it's slowly transferring into I'm just the delivery guy bringing up the Christmas stuff, and I'm not even married.
