New Keeper League - help on setup

Hey Guys
Not sure where to put this but could use some help on setting up a Keeper league. Im looking for ideas/examples of how to decide on number of keepers allowed, what the cost of keeping, if any and so on

I'm in several Dynasty leagues but the keeper league seems to have so many different options. We are point based head to head with 4 D, 2 G, 2LW, 2 RW, 2 C outside of that everything is open for your input!

Well you can kind of break down the formats into a few categories.

Full keeper

Limited keeper - Keeping 3, 5 or whatever number that isn't full

Limited keeper with variation - keeping X amount but only allowing them to be kep for Y number of years

Keeper based on draft position - you can keep a player in whatever draft spot they were taken the previous year. Eg. If you keep McDavid you don't get a 1st round pick the next season.

If deciding the number of keepers allowed, it is considered a "limited" or "partial keeper".
Personally, I think the best number for a partial keeper is 50%-75% of your roster.

In a 6F/4D/2G league, I think half is good.
I'd go 5 skaters + 1 goalie, per team.

That gives you a sizeable enough redraft for future years.
You can consider whether you want to allow draft pick trading.
Usually "draft pick trading" is the best way to install "parity"/balance in a partial keeper.

Contending teams that are going for it will feel forced to move all their assets to have best chance.
The rebuilding teams may have weaker keepers, but stocking up on 1st & 2nd round redraft picks will give them a great shot at being a better overall team in the next year.

would you have any restrictions to the keepers? Example of number of years you can keep player X? Or if you drafted Player X first round, to keep you must give up your first round? This is where our league discussion gets held up each time.

If you are locked in on the members in your league, I would just put that to a vote. But be wary....it's best to have a league where the members are all on board with the same kind of format. Keeps everyone happy and active and most importantly, in the league.

Looks like we are going with
H2H Points style league C, C, LW, LW, RW, RW, D, D, D, D, G, G, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, IR, IR+

2 Keepers max, 3 year max contract but each keeper you have to forfeit your next years pick according to the +1 draft order ( Ex. Mantha drafted 5th round if i keep he costs me a 4th next year) Points below however goalie stats changing

I cant for the life of me get the league to add Hits or to change keeper requiremnts......i may be the one who leaves the league!
