    Default The Iron League...

Reggie Dunlop: You guys triplets or something?
    Jack Hanson: Nah, I am in the middle...Steve's 20 and Jeff's 18
    Reggie Dunlop: Where ya from?
    Jack Hanson: Iron League
Reggie Dunlop: The Iron League huh, lotta fights?
The Iron League was founded in 2001 after merging the best GM's we could find from multiple websites and public leagues (Sandbox, Yahoo, etc). In 2008 the league was setup on ESPN as a 16 team keeper league. The GM group is fairly stable with usually about one replacement GM every season. It looked like this year would be one without any changes, but one of our founding GM's has gone inactive without any communication. While we hope for the best for them, the league needs to move on. For me, this is a sad move since this GM was a key founder to the group and very competitive, winning one Iron Cup and making the final another season, while owning an .532 win percentage coming into this season.

This is a custom H2H points based league that rewards for hits, blocks, etc with deep rosters.

Each team keeps 5 players, limit of 1 keeper goalie.
    NHL draft format (not serpentine).
Draft picks can be traded for the upcoming season only (tracked via message board until the new season starts).

The team is named the Saskatoon Frostbite but can be changed by new GM.

    Key Players:

F-Malkin, Kucherov, Point, Boeser, Arvidsson, Vrana, Nugent-Hopkins, and Re. Smith
    D-Karlsson, Letang, Doughty, and Pietrangelo
    G-Subban, Allen, Samsonov

Daily lineup changes with weekly games played limits.
Starting Lineups (positions as determined by ESPN):
3 Centers, 2 Right Wing, 2 Left Wing, and 2 Forwards
    3 Defenseman and 2 Goalies.

Rosters are limited to 3 goalies max so there is decent options for streaming backups/spot starters.

As you can see this is a strong forward and elite defensive group but lacking goaltending to be competitive this season. Streaming the position is the option I have been doing over the past few weeks to make them competitive. Not sure why the GM didn't keep a goalie from the prior year (had Gibson) or draft one (had plenty of opportunities to draft anyone they wanted).

With the firepower and assets at hand, making a trade to acquire a keeper level goalie are very possible; not to mention being in a position to draft #1 or #2 overall next season (and in each round). Since each team can only keep 1 goalie there is always good talent available. For example this year the first round featured: Bobrovsky, Grubauer, Kuemper, Gibson, Murray, Korpisalo, and Mrazek.

The other owners are very active in roster management, drafting, and trading (tends to come in waves with 7 happening in the past 40 days). Smack talk is light but it perks up occasionally. It is really hard to "sneak" players in the draft or through waivers/free agency as this group is well tuned into NHL teams and player trends.

If you have no interest in paying attention to the 3rd pair blueliner getting PP2 ice time or that checking line winger who got promoted to the top line then move along.

If you are interested in a deep league with intelligent hockey minds challenging your every move and the ability to play for the NOW or the FUTURE then let me know.

[email protected] or post here and I'll keep checking.

    Bumping this post.

Had 1 new GM go dead on me.

Players on team: Hintz, Norris, Marner, Josi, Cirelli, Kyrou, Rielly, Byfield, Binnington, Knight, Blackwood, among others.

Roster is decent, but lots of options to upgrade; including likely 1st round pick in every round and some off-season trade opportunities.
