Shero in “listening mode” on Hall

So apparently Hall and his agent have made it clear they want to test free agency. Obviously no prohibition against him signing in NJ in the off season if he is traded but it would net the Devils a lot more if the team getting him then signed him. Where do you guys think he might end up?

I had been thinking about the Hurricanes not long ago, they even have 2 1st round picks this year to deal. I never got around to looking how signing Hall to a long-term deal would work cap wise for them.

I just assume any price Shero would want a team would only pay if it came with a pre-negotiated contract from Hall. I don't see him being a rental player but if he was St. Louis could make a sneaky move acquiring Hall to fill in Tarasenko's regular season cap space and then still bring Tarasenko back for the playoffs where being 'over the cap' isn't a factor.

I don’t believe that Hall gets traded with a long term contract agreement in place. I think he wants to make it to free agency. Perhaps a condition clause to a trade could be included but I think it’s likely he will be a rental if he gets traded.

islanders rumoured to be kicking tires but theres probably a division rival tax that would make cost too high . Isles cant afford to be trading away the likes of wahlstrom , dobson for a rental .

I don’t think the price would be that high for him as a rental, which is all I believe he’d be. Shero is not dealing from a position of strength - he needs to avoid getting Tavaresed.

Most are expecting a Mark Stone type return of a very high end prospect, younger roster player and a good pick (Ottawa got a 2nd in the return).

I can see Shero looking for something similar.

He was traded and signed after the trade. Its wasn't a sign and trade deal.

True, but while Stone was signed quite a bit after the deadline, I believe they had a deal worked out in principal prior to the trade and only waited the time they did to be able to add the 8th year to the contract. I'd be surprised if Vegas would've sent all they did without extreme confidence that the contract was as good as done.

Even if Hall gets a situation like Stone where an extension possibility increases his value, I don't think NJD get the same as Ottawa did with Stone.

I think, with the situation around Hall and the Devils, If they get a 1st + a B level prospect they'd be good. I could be wrong, but my gut says Hall wants to test the market. Just has that "I want to be wanted by a team" vibe. Like, he'd like being courted.
