The Calgary Flames have fired head coach Bill Peters in response to allegations made by former player Akim Aliu on social media, according to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek.

Flames were 1-7 in their last 8... so regardless of weight on different issues, it was time.
w.r.t. Aliu... it's rare that anybody harbors a grudge for 10 years without their being some truth to it.

It shall be interesting to see what age-of-coach they go with for replacement.
I speculated yesterday that we'd start to see younger coaches - more in touch with proper culture for the younger players.

Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving told TSN Senior Hockey Reporter Frank Seravalli no determination has been made on Bill Peters' job status as of yet.

Nice to see that CNN and MSNBC have managed to infect our sports networks up here with their "be first, even if it's false" attitude.

Now, seriously, Sportsnet knows that there's no way Peters survives this. So they're just playing the odds here, and they'll be proven right. TSN actually applying some journalistic integrity. Happy to see that.

Peters certainly should have been considered a “hot seat” coach before the racial allegation. His system never truly worked in Carolina, and his job had to be in trouble with an underperforming Calgary team. I heard there are supporting witnesses to the incidents - even 10 years ago, even 30 years ago, this is ugly and can’t be excused. He’ll be out of hockey, I’ll bet.

Official or not, Peters will be out.
Teammates have corroborated Aliu's accusation. That's it. Game over.
The only thing an investigation will uncover is how many MORE people heard it.

He's not just done with the Flames either. He'll never coach in the NHL again.

Now, to be fair, let's hope the networks don't try to destroy this man when his firing inevitably happens.
Making a mistake like this, saying that word in the context of music he dislikes, doesn't make him a racist in his heart. Context matters.
He's going to pay a huge price for his mistake and fair enough. I just hope the networks don't try to ruin his life over this. A banishment to coaching in the KHL is a fair enough punishment.
