I just used the strength of Saros playing in 9 of the Preds last 11 to acquire Holtby.
My Saros, 4th in 2020, 5th in 2021 and 6th in 2021 for Holtby, a 9th in 2020 and a 10th in 2021.

I think the change is also related to how teams are managing the salary cap. Having a 1A and 1B allows teams to spend less on Goaltending and spend more elsewhere. This also provides flexibility to move/lose one of their goalies as the other goalie is ready at any time for more starts. If you tie up $10M+ in a goalie you have much less flexibility and cap space to then lock up the skating stars on your team.
