Default Is Barrie worth re-rostering with Keefe in/Babs gone?

Surely Keefe will free him up and Barrie will actually be put into situations to succeed and produce, right?

...this is coming from someone who drafted him in the 5th round and cut him a week ago. And if you do give him another chance, how long or short of a leash to does he get?

Yes. Barrie did not forget to play hockey over the summertime. He is worth a re-roll of the dice.

I am very happy with the coaching change as a Barrie owner as he just didn't look like the players that put up big numbers on the Avs last year. The way Muzzin, Barrie and a few others who came in have played under Babcock and this year's coaching staff tells me there was something about the way they were being told to play which wasnt working. The whole defense core looked worse than last year, individually and as a group. I can almost guarantee Barrie will get chance on PP1, whether it's every now and then in the game to give Rielly a break or a regular shift. From most reports, Keefe is an attack first kind of guy. You're probably gonna see quite a bit more production from Barrie even if the defensive gaffes continue.

Can't hurt. Likely sees a little more offensive opportunity and perhaps a more freewheeling style of play.

Assuming there's little cost to doing so, yes. If you have very limited moves, or it's an extremely shallow league, etc, then it's not as straightforward.

Default Re: Is Barrie worth re-rostering with Keefe in/Babs gone?

Does anyone have insight on how Keefe deploys his dmen? Is he known to run 2 dmen on the PP or 1, does he have a go-to all minutes dman or does he like allocating ice time, etc?

I did some very basic searching by checking out the production of Marlies top point getting dmen under Keefe,

    15/16:
    > TJ Brennan (68pts in 69gp - 0.99p/g)
    > Stuart Percy (24pts in 58gp - 0.41p/g)
    > Rinat Valiev (23pts in 60gp - 0.38p/g)

    16/17:
    > Frank Corrado (12pts in 18gp - 0.67p/g)
    > Andrew Nielsen (39pts in 74gp - 0.53p/g)
    > Travis Dermott (24pts in 59gp - 0.41p/g)

    17/18:
    > Travis Dermott (18pts in 28gp - 0.64p/g)
    > Justin Holl (28pts in 60gp - 0.47p/g)
    > Andrew Nielsen (26pts in 65gp - 0.40p/g)

    18/19:
    > Calle Rosen (46pts in 54gp - 0.85p/g)
    > Rasmus Sandin (28pts in 44gp - 0.64p/g)
    > Jordan Subban (18pts in 48gp - 0.38p/g)

    Current Marlies Season:
    > Rasmus Sandin (9pts in 9gp - 1.00p/g)
    > Timothy Liljegren (8pts in 13gp - 0.62p/g)
    > Jordan Schmaltz (7pts in 12gp - 0.58p/g)

Again, very basic. Not a whole lot of context as to call ups, if players played altogether, etc.

However, you can see for the most part one dman easily paces above 0.5p/g while two others hover around, either one slightly above it and the other below it or both below it. Current season three are above it but it’s too early to tell if that would hold up for a full year.

    Current Leafs Season:
    > Morgan Rielly (17pts in 23gp - 0.74p/g)
    > Jake Muzzin (11pts in 22gp - 0.50p/g)
    > Tyson Barrie (7pts in 23gp - 0.30p/g)

^that’s the Leafs current top3 dmen which is similar to Keefe’s dmen pace AKA one is easily above 0.5p/g (Rielly) while two others hover around that mark (Muzzin+Barrie).

Just doing some guess work but I think it’s more likely that Muzzin & Barrie’s p/g flip than it is Barrie gets closer to Rielly and his drops. Unless again Keefe makes some drastic changes and gives Barrie PP1 duties. And as I said, I’m not sure how Keefe deploys his dmen on the PP and haven’t checked their PPTOI which would give a clearer picture.

...I’m assuming Barrie gets closer to half a point per game. I’d be surprised/impressed if he goes above it and Keefe manages to have him and Rielly above 0.5p/g

Do people think Barrie is worth picking up over Adam Fox or Nate Schmidt given their current deployments?

Barrie moved to pp1 at practice.

Babcock didn't try Barrie on the first unit once this year.

No PP for the Leafs last night so we cant determine how much better the PP will run with Barrie at the helm, but he did score his first goal of the season last night and played over 20 minutes, which has been the norm for him so far this season.

Barrie was a lot more active last night, however that game really could have been different. Lots of potential 2on1's for Yotes that somehow just didn't develop and that's from Keefe activating the D a lot, which he'll continue to do. The forwards did a good job covering, and there was a lot of times we saw a forward back on the point, or somehow the last guy back. But this game could have been very different.

I would take a flyer on Barrie, I've personally held onto him for this long though. He def had this aura about him since Babcock left which could just be the "relief" he needs to build that confidence back up. Going into Colorado on Saturday with a goal seems to be a big deal for him (he mentioned it in an interview after the game) so might just be the flood gates opening for him. Might just be a blip though since this game could have been very different.

The one thing that is a lock when a new coach comes in is that SOME things will be done DIFFERENTLY.
Yes, Barrie is impacted in the first key change.

Leafs practice yesterday did set up a 3F:2D PP1 unit.
Matthews, Tavares, Nylander are the forwards.
    Barrie(RH)-Rielly(LH) at the points.

So, yes, Barrie will be the key beneficiary... because PP1 points are critical for D-men to score 40+pts.
The 3F:2D PP is the traditional approach, it's safe - and DIFFERENT from the 4F:1D approach.
The 4F:1D is the more modern, more offensive PP1 unit... and eventually, all teams will shift to that, Leafs, too, I think.

But for now, Keefe's do-it-DIFFERENT will be to try to jump-start Barrie by deploying him in the 3F:2D PP.

    In summary:
Yes, Barrie should be the key beneficiary of the Keefe-regime.
    Worth an add, of course.

(And Leafs fans will see different as better... as long as they are winning... so Barrie should get at LEAST 5+gp trial on PP1.)

Thinking of dropping Petry to grab Barrie - does that make sense?
In a 10 league where we start 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4D and 2 G daily. It is a H2H league - we keep 3 players (1 G max), are allowed a max of 2 keeps for each player. The number in brackets is the number of keeps I have left:

G, A, +/-, PIMs, PPG, PPA and Shots.
C - Larkin, Couturier, Kopitar, Cirelli
LW - OV, Panarin (1), Schenn (C), Ehlers (RW), Kreider
RW - Kucherov (0), Seguin (C), Palmieri, Voracek, Yamamoto
    D - Yandle, DeAngelo

    W, GAA, SV% and Saves.
G - Rask, Varlamov, Hart, Mrazek
    IR+ - Tarasenko

Ngl, I’m pretty sad I dropped Barrie days before Babcock got fired after holding on for so long

Dobber community told me to drop him and another team scooped him up. Very heartbroken indeed
