I suppose he got Kadri and Rielly on good contracts, traded for Andersen, and offloaded Phaneuf which are all good important moves. Andersen in particular was huge, and Rielly has obviously made that contract look like a huge bargain with the numbers he's putting up. But he also signed Zaitsev, Matt Martin, Polak (who was probably better than people want to admit), and Marleau to a $6mil+ contract, as well as moving second rounders for Plekanec and Boyle.

Dubas moved out the Zaitsev mistake, but it cost him Connor Brown. He moved out Marleau, but it cost him a 1st. He brought in Barrie (hey it looked good at the time) and Muzzin, but it cost Kadri, another first, and some decent prospects. I think those all addressed errors and oversights by the previous guy. He's also got some extremely good young players locked in, though I guess there's some concern he paid too much.

I dunno, I will reserve judgement until I see how he handles the upcoming mess of defense he needs to sign before next season. Typing the whole thing out makes it seem like they both have their ups and downs. Lou definitely got the rebuild off to a good start though, you're right.

No stats to back up this but I figure its pretty rare a coach takes over a bottom dweller team and is still the coach when/if the team is competing for championships.

Also, every GM gets to hire his own coach at least once.

    In the modern era...
    1971 Canadiens
    2000 Devils
    2009 Pens
    2012 Kings
    2016 Pens
    2019 Blues

And those are ones who won it. I’d guess there’s few who went to the final and lost as well.

I meant coaches who take over horrible teams.....not coaching changes in the middle of the season.

Why else would there be a coaching change? I thought we were talking about Babcock getting fired mid season...

Im talking about a team where 'there will be pain' before they start to be competitive.

By the time the team gets good the coach is old news. Thats what it seems like anyways

that is a bitter man. I'd normally suggest a guy doing this should move on but it's kind of entertaining

Was expecting this to happen but not this soon. HIgh fives for all of us who voted yes in the poll thread!

For those of you who think Dubas is bad, I think that we really don't know yet. They have some good talent locked up, and this year was going to be challenging with the cap situation.

If Barrie can't get going offensively, I think he gets dealt, and I can think of a team that covets right shot defensemen and is unhappy with their current power play guy, and has a bad GM in place who Toronto can fleece.

No more excuses for the team now. Players who have been paid need to put their money where their mouth is. Simple as that.
