    Default Laine

    Laine is killing me.

I traded for him earlier in the year and had major reservations about it.

I was concerned he was a one trick pony ie Rick Nash 2.0.

So far he has been what I was concerned but assists instead.

Is this mofo worth keeping? Or do I trade him while his name still have a lot of value.

I don’t know who this guy is or what he is going to be, I’m very confused on what I should do with him.

As a Laine owner, I understand your concerns. I'm considering selling him high as well.

With that said, I've watched a few more Jets games this year and I like what I see. He's working harder and getting mad. I think his points have been harder to come by this year and that's a good thing - he's not coasting as much in my opinion. His ice time is consistently around 19 minutes (2 minutes more than last year), he's hitting twice as much as last year, shooting more than last year, and he's less selfish with the puck.

I'm not saying he's done a 180 but it's an indicator of maturing.

Hmm as Laine owner as well I am happy with what I have seen. He's a PPG player without putting the puck into the net. That will correct itself soon and when it does, this could be the breakout year we have been expecting.

Depends what you traded for him really. If I owned Laine from the get go this season, I would be exteremely happy with his production. His G and S% are low, but his 5on5 S% is really high. Really, he's been unlucky and lucky at the same time.

Ultimately I think he's a an inconsistent 70-75 point goal heavy player (50G, 25A) on a regular basis. Might be able to hit a point per game in a lucky year, hitting 50 in an unlucky year (last year).

Just know that he'll run hot and cold, which can drive you crazy. If it were me, I'd find someone who thinks he's a PPG+ player, and sell him, especially now while he's on the hot end. Get a better player and avoid the streakiness.

I'm close to taking Hughes over Laine, but Guentzel over Connor. I think you could do better with more of a sure thing.

Too be honest guys other than the goal to assist ratio Laine is arguably over performing from expectations. Here's where we stand:

On pace for 18 goals, but like all goal scorers he's streaky and probably hits a hot streak at some point. I don't think even the biggest Laine hater has him finishing under 20 goals.

On pace for 60 apples, probably slows down but way above expectations.

On pace for 78 points. I had him at 69 and I think I was way higher than most, again the goal to assist ratio should level out.

He's averaging a career high 19:08 in ice time. This is almost 2 minutes more than last year and gives him the ability to produce. Owners have to be thrilled with this.

He's averaging over 3 shots per game, right where we would expect and hope for. Shooting percentage is sitting at a career low (6.3 percent). We should see that at least double, and possibly triple.

Fantasy wise I think Laine will finish with his best season to date and a significant point improvement from the 50 we saw last year. Probably doesn't top 44 goals but 30 is still well within reach for him.

I agree with this. I see a 75 to 80 point 35 goal season from him. Which as an owner myself I am thrilled with. Also as a bonus in a leagues that count hits he's been a beast.

I'm in the 'pleased with Laine so far' camp. I've watched a few games and he looks like a different player this year. Last year I had to look away a few times because of how slow he appeared. This year, he is in the thick of things, winning puck battles, hitting, making slick passes, playmaking... he just looks like a difference maker. And his stats are showing this difference. Once he gets some better luck shooting, I think those stats will look even better.

Still don't love that 5on5 S% though sitting at 16%. That should adjust closer to 10 or 11% for him, which would put him closer to a pace of 55-60 points as opposed to the 85 he's currently on.

His individual S% should come up, but that should already be accounted for in the 5 on 5 S%. It might offset it a bit meaning he's on more of a 60-65 pace, but he's still a guy I would be looking to sell high on.

I still think he might be able to hit a point per game in a hot season (as we've seen) but I also think he will hit down seasons of 50 (as we've seen). So if you're able to sell him now for someone similar in age that you're more confident can consistently hit a point per game or even 75, why not make that move?
