Particularly if you're someone coming here to try and take advantage of Canada's milk and honey right!

Look at it however you want. He still wanted you to buy and wear a poppy. Dont forget that part of the statement.

I wonder if we can get this thread to 8-9 pages of stupidity too!

Thanks for reminding us that he wanted people to buy poppies. This whole time I thought he was talking about buying scratch-off tickets.

Maybe we can get to 10 pages.

I don't think anyone disagrees with "buy a poppy". That's not why Don got fired.

It was referring to immigrants as "you people" (ie "the other", which is inherently xenophobic). If Don had just say "buy a poppy", or "I think all Canadians should buy a poppy" or some inclusive variant thereof, this would never have become a discussion.

But because he basically said "Immigrants don't buy poppies, and they should", he's generalizing, excluding, and otherwise coming across as anti-immigrant. Regardless of whether "buy a poppy" is important, the issue is that he was criticizing immigrants to Canada. That's the only issue here.

Yes, he wanted people to buy a poppy. Particularly those who come to Canada to take advantage of our wonderful system. Particularly those others.

(and shit, on my settings we're only on page 2! There's a lot more ground to cover if we're going to make it to 10...)

The people supporting him are so supportive of the overall message (buy a poppy), that they are willing to overlook (or fail to see entirely) the shitty, divisive, discriminatory delivery.

Thanks for finally recognizing that part. You conveniently seemed to continually leave that part out of your previous statements.

You can also say that the people who are only seeing the shitty, diversive, disciminatory delivery are overlooking the overall message of him wanting people to support the Veterans. Crap is running in both directions.

Who is overlooking that message? Nobody missed the part about buying a poppy and supporting veterans. I think I've typed 'buy a poppy' 65 times in these threads. Trying to correct the bad part doesn't mean we've somehow missed the good part.

    This is false.

He chose his words poorly, as he often did. Nobody is overlooking that.
His intentions were good though. That is what his supporters are trying to say.
And they are also a little tired of SJW mobs taking over society. Understandably so. This incident with Cherry is just another example of that. He has said far worse things on the air without this kind of uproar. Without getting canned.

Maybe you're not then, but plenty of people are. And his intentions WERE NOT GOOD. His intention was to single out immigrants and slam them based on his own prejudicial views. His intentions were only good if you overlook the immigrant part, which is what you seem to be doing even though you said nobody is.

To be fair, I'm not a huge fan of the constant SJW stuff either, and if this was an isolated incident I would be more likely to support him, giving him the benefit of the doubt that it was just a mis-speak. But the guy has been preaching his xenophobic views for decades, and it seems pretty clear that he was ranting about new Canadians not being as Canadian as him.

When I was a kid, 7 or 8, I was trying to pitch a softball, doing ok but not great. This guy on my team, who was playing second base, started chirping me, saying I suck and someone else should take over. I got upset. After the game my dad noticed something changed in me a bit and asked, so I told him. He gave me some advice I will never forget and I think many people never got told this, just judging by whats going on lately. He said "son, how do you feel about this guy? Do you like him? Do you respect him?" I said "No dad, he is a bully and a fool". My dad replied "then why does what he said matter to you?". Simple and effective. All cleaned up, im my head, and Ive never been insulted ever again.

Don Cherry, blah blah, it isnt the point. The point is that one day, the way we are trending its gonna be you. You will have good intentions, but be misunderstood, and you will burn for it. Or worse yet itll be me. I'm still struggling to find this new rule book of life but I sure hope I do before the bus runs me over. Or people can thicken up, focus on their own shortcomings and forget about all the word daggers that are meaningless. Getting offended is easy and lazy, looking past it is much harder to do but make life easier to deal with.

If respecting and honouring Canadian Veterans makes you a dinosaur, then I guess I am one.

This insane Cancel Culture BS is creating an atmosphere of intimidation and fear in our country (and all of the West). Many of the people decrying Don Cherry more than likely voted for Trudeau last month. Wearing blackface more times than he can remember, kicking women out of the Cabinet because they don't toe the fake feminist line he pushes, and ethics violations are just fine with the SJW Leftist mob, but Don Cherry is a bigot because he is calling out people for not being aware or even interested in acknowledging the unbelievable sacrifices that our veterans have made and continue to make.

In my opinion this is "White Guilt" - the idea that Caucasians and the West are responsible for all the evil in the world while greedily exploiting the coloured folk (apparently democracy, human rights, medicine and educational systems are a blight on the globe) - and therefore they have to make up for it by pointing at other white people and calling them bad, which at the same time highlights the fact that they are one of the good ones. "See? I'm so anti-racist that I hate white people! I'm so virtuous! Not like those OTHER white people, they're the bad ones."

Additionally, if you are a "Person of Colour" (apparently that's what they've decided to call us now - it's better than "visible minority") who does not feel oppressed, does not have a resentment towards Caucasians or blame them for all your problems, you are out of the club. These leftist SJW's consider "minorities" inferior oppressed folk who are helpless and just don't know what's good for us - therefore we need custodians and shepherds to protect us and keep us in line when we start thinking for ourselves. If we aren't offended, they'll be offended for us whether we like it or not. And lucky for us, THEY KNOW WHAT WE NEED.

Both of my parents are immigrants to this country (I was born here) and they are in full agreement with Don, as am I. But that means they're out of the club and bad. Those immigrants' opinions don't count. Because.

And I'll leave you with this. Remember this next year you racist pigs, laying a wreath on Remembrance Day is just wrong and bigoted:

I love how people arguing the offensive side, completely ignored this post. Than as Axemann pointed out are accusing of us only concentrating on what part of the story.
