Gardiner - ice time

Hi guys,

I'm looking to add a potent D to my defensive squad and by looking at what is available in my league, i came up with a few names: Shattenkirk, Gardiner, Edler, Slavin.

1- Edler: so-so team, lots of ice time, first power play unit (but could be challenge by quinn hughes), always miss a big chunk of games.
2- Shattenkirk : Good team, second power play unit, lots of ice time, but let's face it, he's the third option when it comes to offense on the D side for Tampa.
3- Slavin: Good team, see no power play, first defensive unit with dougie hamilton, lots of ice time. He's really good but has never put up more than 34 points.
4- Gardiner: Good team, first power play unit (but third pairing), don't see lots of ice time, proven offensive D.

If not of the low ice time (only 17 minutes/game so far), I would definetely go with Gardiner (in a points only league).

- Do you think Gardiner's ice time will increase throughout the year?
- I really love Slavin, but do you think he'll ever get some time on the powerplay?

With all that said, what is your ranking of these 4 D?

For points only, if healthy Edler and Gardiner should be tops among the group. Of course Edler always gets hurt and Gardiner seems to be second banana to Hamilton, who's truly breaking out. Shattenkirk is the wild card, as he's a solid scorer on a high scoring team. The risk/reward pick is Shattenkirk, but the safe pick is Edler, figuring you could replace him if he gets hurt considering all the guys who are available now.

not sure why you are focusing on ice time for Gardiner. Gardiner will get his points, given his current deployment on the top PP unit, even with less than 20 mins of ice time. I'd be shocked if he didn't outpoint all the other options you are considering here.
