Default What to do with Jack Hughes? (Reppp city)

I'm running 4 NJD, and 4 exclusive centers (if you count Point currently being held hostage in my IR). I need to get rid of a Jersey player, but trades are impossible. No one will touch Palmieri. I'm not impressed with Hughes but understand it's still early. Given his deployment though, I would consider him a success if he hits 55 points this year, and FA is full of 50 point, 160 shot centers.

Drop Jack Hughes? Keep him? I'm too invested in a terrible team.

    Thank you as always!

I would wait a bit on Hughes. If the Devils start scoring and Hughes isn't part of the binge, then I'd be worried. But let's see if they can get out of their funk. Hall doesn't have a goal this year so something has to give with that whole offence.

Running 4 NJD is a bit heavy though, no? What do you see as his upside? I'm wary of handcuffing my team for name value alone.

If it’s me I’m dropping Coleman or Shaw and keeping Hughes. Last two games saw his most sog 3 and 4 I believe. So it’s just about time. He also hit the post last game and got robbed another time. So yeah I would dump those 2 before I lose Hughes

I’ve already ditched Hughes in my one-year league, I’ll get better peripherals and there’s lots of 55-60 point center options. In the one keeper league that I have him, I’m holding my nose and playing him when there’s a spot open.... otherwise BENCH. He lasts the year unless I’m in serious playoff hunt - then I’d trade him for an “asset.”

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

I saw Hughes in an interview before the Bruins game. He's happy with his play and feels like things are getting better for him game by game. I think of Jack Hughes a little bit like I do James Neal but in reverse. I have him and as much as I love dropping and adding, he's one guy I'm not dropping.

It is, but his pedigree is high enough to justify waiting at least until the 10 game mark IMO. Also has having 4 NJD created lineup issues? I see your roster and it's hard to tell because you have a lot of guys I believe have multi position eligibility. Hall and Coleman coul conflict but I think you have some guys you can slide to other positions. Coleman would probably be the guy to cut right now because LW is probably where the conflicts will crop up.

Hughe's upside this year is probably 65 points, but I feel the chance he hits it is lowish. Nonetheless, I would want to see more before dropping him.

I'm not dropping Hughes until at least the end of October. NJ might be terrible this year, but every team has to score. I totally get not wanting to be tied to 4 Devils. In that case, I'd easily drop Coleman right now and wait to see who starts scoring once the Devils find a way to put the puck in the back of the net.

Hughes is your #4 center. I'd drop Hughes before Coleman with your categories, and it's not really close. I'm in a league with very similar categories, and Coleman was sandwiched in between Giroux & Tarasenko last year for value, but we don't split forwards out, which helps Coleman even more.

Now, I don't think Hughes is actually your most droppable guy just yet, that's Shaw. But Coleman > Hughes in this format for one year.

Thanks everyone for the advice, rep has been handed out.

I watched every game recap for the Devils so far and Hughes looks good, he's usually in the right spot and making plays happen. I decided to drop Ceci to move Point in instead, and I guess I'll just run 4 Devils. I can't drop Coleman, he's too valuable in our league.

Drop Shaw to get Point off the IR. Keep Hughes for now.
In a 10 league where we start 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4D and 2 G daily. It is a H2H league - we keep 3 players (1 G max), are allowed a max of 2 keeps for each player. The number in brackets is the number of keeps I have left:

G, A, +/-, PIMs, PPG, PPA and Shots.
C - Larkin, Couturier, Kopitar, Cirelli
LW - OV, Panarin (1), Schenn (C), Ehlers (RW), Kreider
RW - Kucherov (0), Seguin (C), Palmieri, Voracek, Yamamoto
    D - Yandle, DeAngelo

    W, GAA, SV% and Saves.
G - Rask, Varlamov, Hart, Mrazek
    IR+ - Tarasenko

I dropped Ceci instead; Shaw is staying for now. Too much upside with our settings.

Hughes is just frustrated right now and once he gets one I think he will loosen up and more will come his way. Don't drop him. I would also not drop Coleman. The guy to let go is Shaw on your team to upgrade.

I think the key here is that it's a 1 year league. Waiting too long will kill your season.
    Especially early.
The main question to ask - what is available as replacement?
