I have been given an offer of Monahan and Chabot for Laine. My initial thoughts are no as I hate the flames but I need some help to potentially look past my hatred for the flames.
what are your thoughts?

I'd do that deal. It's funny that a couple weeks ago people couldn't get rid of Laine fast enough.

I could be missing something about your format, as you have Ekblad as a keeper (along with three other D) and Laine and Marner as drops. That's just weird to me.
If you selected your keepers in a way I understood, I don't think Monahan as a keeper. And it's highly questionable that Chabot is an upgrade on Laine and might not be a keeper either.
These deal only makes sense if you are in win now and don't have to drop anyone to take back two players.
That's how I see it, anyways...

I didn’t update my keepers.
I’ll make some moves in the off-season. That’s not my concern at this point.
My primary question is does this trade help me win now.
The secondary question is does this improve my 8 potential keepers.
I view Monahan as a down grade to Laine. I’m not sure if chabot is better then my other D options.

That is exactly why I said no to the trade. Laine is better than Monahan no doubt about it. I guess if you do make the trade you would drop Grzelcyk or Severson. You start 4 anyway so dropping one of those two isn't going to make that much impact. Your top 4 D two of which are better in my opinion than Chabot(Seth Jones and Dumba) and the other two(Klingberg and Ekblad )are just as good so fitting him in your top 4 is going to be hard. This is why I thought the trade wasn't a slam dunk.

I'd take that deal, honestly. You have easily droppable defenders that Chabot is a large upgrade on, and Monahan versus Laine is pretty close.

It downgrades your keepers, IMO.
If it helps you this year, it's very marginal at best (IMO).
