    Default Trade Namestnikov to Sens

The Ottawa Senators have acquired Vladislav Namestnikov from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2021 fourth round draft pick and defenceman Nick Ebert. The Rangers will retain $750,000 of Namestnikov's $4 million salary. Namestnikov will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Wow. He goes from Tampa’s first line to Rangers’ third, to Ottawa - can this guy still play? “Contract year” only helps him if he actually lights the lamp 15-20 times.

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

The Sens are admittedly rebuilding and they trade away picks for Namestnikov? Why?

A guess, but they give him first line minutes with Brady and White, try to pad the hell out of his stats and then flip him at the deadline for a 2nd + prospect. Good business if it works.

I can see the Sens re-signing him.

Its because Batherson and co aren't ready. The Sens are actually being smart and trying to fill in the gaps with plugs that will help them work towards the 1st overall pick while also not rushing their youth.

Namestnikov came to NY with the mindset that he could score off the rush, but it readily became apparent that he didn't have it. His game while in NY consisted of floating around using his excellent stride, yet he was rarely if ever in the right place to score. Coach scratched him so that by the time he returned to active duty he was going to hard areas and looking for rebounds. Getting crunched by staying in the crease.
He is a good hockey player but in this fans opinion he doesn't have enough game to run a line, but rather is a complementary piece.
He belongs on a lower line where he can utilize his plug and play ability.
    Best of luck to him.
He changed his game to suit NY's style and although the points didn't come as often as hoped he does have game.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

I get that but you're telling me there's no one in Belleville they couldn't recall to fill the hole?

Leafs did this with scrub older NHLers. But I guess guys like Pominville, McGinn, Vanek, Boyle, Smith-Pelly, Thornburn, Paajarvi, and Stafford rather be UFA's than play for Ottawa?

Seriously, I rather sign a could of those guys to a one year and tell them if they play well, they'll be moved to a contender in February.
