    Is....this....a............reasonable contract?

Might be a little pricey AAV in the last year or two when Schenn will be 35ish, but I really like this for STL.

Pricey in the end. Absolutely fantastic right now. Quick look on Capfriendly and he is surrounded by Stepan and Stastny at that number.

Compared to Kevin Hayes everything is golden.

I think this deal is alright. Not great, but I doubt it'll hurt the Blues at any point.

    Good number.
As for the Schenn signing, completely works nicely with all the other team-players on STL.

This signing + (moreso) STL's Faulk signing was indication, to me, that Pietrangelo is probably headed to UFA. (and STL's GM probably knows it, hence the Faulk trade-and-sign)
Right now, AP seems like he'd be a perfect fit as a 2020 UFA signing for DET: 7x$10m.
They're gonna have the cap to do it, let Green walk, and really need a high-end RD1.

    Cholowski(L)-Pietrangelo(R)
    Nemeth(L)-Hronek(R)
    Dekeyser(L)-Seider(R)

**Seider likely into top 4 (Nemeth/Dekeyser gone) after his rookie season.

excellent value, imo, for a player that brings a lot to the table, besides 65-70 pt upside. He's a great player to have in the top 6 on any team.

As an aside, with the DeBrincat signing and now this one, I'm wondering if teams are looking at the RFA fiasco from this past summer and trying to get their players locked up early to avoid a similar situation next year. Knowing right now what key players will be earning in future years enables teams to make some in-season moves/trades that might help them in the short-term, without worrying about handcuffing themselves in the long-term when they have to re-sign their current roster players.

I think that is the case and I don't agree with their approach. Most of the RFAs eventually signed team-friendly deals. Copycat league + overreacting = better deals for players.

This summer's RFA crop was rare, maybe unheard of. Can't draw general conclusions based on that!

I think it is more just the uncertainty of knowing the team's cap situation next season, and thereby making it harder to make some in-season moves this year. Having the contracts wrapped up now gives the team more options/control.
