He played through that in the WJC? Wow.

I don't see him in the top 6 next season for the Flyers, due to recovery time, and the Flyers are still deep on the blue line. While he played well in camp, he was very, very unlikely to actually make the roster this year.

Right now, you have Gostisbehere who they don't want back, and Braun, who they shouldn't want back - but Fletcher isn't the brightest bulb at GM.

Sanheim, Niskanen, Provorov, Myers are the likely top 4.

Morin, Hagg, whomever they bring in trade for Gostisbehere, and I guess Friedman are in the mix for bottom pairing, plus those not in the AHL right now. Morin I think is on the roster, so that leaves 2 spots. He could get one, but I'd peg him as more likely to be in the AHL to start.

Back to Zamula. How bad is the ""injury is a result of a degenerative condition that intensified at the tournament".

Hoping not this: "Degenerative disc disease (DDD) is a medical condition in which there are anatomic changes and a loss of function of varying degrees of one or more intervertebral discs of the spine of sufficient magnitude as to cause symptoms."

    Good news everyone!

Quick Hits: Farabee, Zamula, TIFH and More

Flyers defense prospect Egor Zamula, whose final junior season ended right after his strong performance for Team Russia at the World Junior Championships, had successful back surgery and is one of the players working out at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. According to an interview he did with a Russian news outlet, Zamula will attend the Flyers camp in Phase 3 in July.

Ivan Provorov has taken Zamula under his wing and is helping the tall and lanky 20-year-old get acclimated as they train in the same group, according to the article. Although he won't see any game action in Phase 4, Zamula wants to use it as a learning experience and prep time for his first pro season in 2020-21.

Zamula posted 28 points (seven goals, 21 assists, +19) in games in the Western Hockey League this season before leading Team Russia's defense corps in ice time along with chipping in five points (two goals, three assists) at the WJC. Thereafter, he had to be shut down to get back surgery to correct a degenerative condition.

I bought him yesterday for a pair of prospect picks.
I will say, PHI has a good offensive D-man roadblock in front of him.
So... buyer beware. All of Provorov, Phil Myers, and probably Cam York may be slotted in front of his PP opps.
(Ghost will be moved this year or next).

Still... all his progress seems like a great future D man for the Flyers.

I know but when you pick him up as a free agent, as I expect most of us in this thread did, it is a nice move.

The Gustafsson signing hurts Zamula's chances of being a full time NHLer this season but it would not surprise me at all if he ends the year on the Flyers.

I agree with this. Unfortunately Fletcher decided to fill the hole left by Niskanen with Braun/Gustaffsson; honestly, I have more issue with bringing Braun back than I do signing Gustafsson.
