Default Will the real Toews please stand up?

I don't follow the 'Hawks closely, so I'm curious what led to Toews 81 point, 235 shot on goal season last year and should we expect 75ish points / 200 SOG going forward, or something back around 55-65 points like the previous 4 seasons?

New coach with a more offensive system. I think a safe expectation would be 70+

I would say Toews getting into the 80+ range is not going to happen. I would say in the low 70's is more of what to expect with him this season.

I would be surprised if he cratered back down to the 50 point range. Scoring is up in the NHL and Toews still has a lot to give. With the Blackhawks not going on deep playoff runs any more, he's also fresher as he gets older. I think 65-75 points is reasonable.

I expect him to go around 65-70 points this year. I would target him only in a league that counts FOW because hes a stud there but in any other format I would pick him only if he slips.

I may be biased because I own him but I think his floor is about 70 points this season and he stands a very good chance of reaching 80 again. Why do I say this when before last season Toews went years as a 55-68ish point player? Because after years of being separated he finally lined up with Kane again for most of the season. And now that the Hawks have a strong second line he will likely spend much of his time with Kane again. If so, I see no reason for a major regression from last seasons point totals.

There are several factors that caused Toews getting over 80 pts last season. Scoring was up, Toews played a large chunk of the season with Kane, Toews played a full 82, and Toews scored 23 pts on the PP which is 5-10 pts more than he has averaged over the last few seasons. Plus, he has a new skills coach that he started working with with last summer who concentrated on Toews' acceleration and explosive skating.

Considering that the fixed PP will start on game 1, I don't see a major decline for Toews. I like these fellas predicting 72-75 pts especially if he keeps playing with Kane.

Thanks all, this was really helpful. I drafted him 24th overall (2nd round) to be my 2nd center. Here's to hoping he stays in the 70+ range!

IN my view Toews has always been more of a 2 way stud than offensive dynamo. All relative since he’s obviously still capable of being a PPG player. But his value is much greater in leagues with peripherals. Points only I think he drops a few draft rounds at minimum.

As good as he’s been in fantasy, he seems one of those players with greater NHL value than fantasy regardless of format. His floor is probably higher than a lot guy s too, but his ceiling lower. Now with Strome, and eventually Dach, I think we could expect Toews to become more of a 200 ft player long term. I’m not even sure he will remain their 1c for many more years, all though he could. But yea, he’s the type of player I generally hope to get a bit cheaper than his name allows for. In that sense he’s also often a good player to trade away for more than he’s worth.

But either way he’s a player who falls ofr rises pretty significantly depending on league scoring. Like a more elite Skinner or ROR. Skinner gaining value in points only, and Toews and ROR gaining value in multi cat. Biggest difference being I can’t stand owning Skinner on multi cat, while the other two still have decent value in points only.

Is there an "idiot" factor clause that would allow this leagues Comish to veto this (:

As a Toews owner last year and after redrafting him this year, I would speculate a drop in his production. The European start didn't help much but the points will come. I am expecting about 55-60 from Toews this year although I really hope the rest of the people posting are correct and he hits over 60.

LOL, I would NEVER do that trade but I did pick Lafferty up after the last Pens game due to my homer love for the Penguins. But seriously, the kid is a 4th liner spark plug who will see ZERO PP time.
