Default Rebuild - which prospects to stock

League in sig. I sold assets for high picks next year, and used this year's draft for mostly prospect hoarding/gambling with the goal of having 3 producing prospects as keepers next year. Additional goal of trading other producing prospects to teams for potential keeper upgrades (ie, Barzal and Q. Hughes, both prospect eligible, were moved for Laine this past off-season). Prospects do have a fair bit of value in our league (at least high end producing ones) due to our keep 7/3 keeper rules.

Because we have no minors, and pretty well all teams (but mine) are set on competing this year, there are still some high end prospects available.

    Guys available:
Kaprisov, Caulfield, Turcotte, Zegras, Dach, Byram, Robertson, Kyrou, Glass, Fabbro, Shesterkin, Frost, Suzuki, Nedeljovic, Prokhorkin, Tolvanen

Would you drop any of Comrie, Thomas, Kravtsov, Hayton, Comtois, Batherson, Cirelli, Yamamoto, Necas for any of the above?

I'm willing to carry a guy who won't play this year if his upside his sky-high.

    Thanks

Isn't there rumours Cirelli's going to push Stamkos to the wing and Centre TB's 2nd line? I'm not sure I'd drop him for Kaprisov given that type of potential deployment

I would drop Comrie & Yam though. Kaprizov & Turcotte would be my 1st two grabs

Caufield & Zegras have really high ceilings. Caufield - See DeBrincat level shot/scoring ability, possibly better

Zegras - I think he's got a ceiling as high as Turcotte. Both should jump into the NHL next year. "One and Done's" in NCAA

Thanks for the thoughts. There's a limit to the number of guys I want to hoard that won't play this year at all. Mainly because guys who do play and produce this year will have a lot more trade value for teams looking for prospects before next draft. I actually drafted Kaprisov, and dropped him for Hayton who I think has a decent shot of making the Coyotes this year. I want to hold Yams for 10 games just to see if he's given another top 6 spot. If not, I'll easily drop him for the high upside of Kaprisov or Turcotte. Comrie I want to hold for now just to see how the 3-headed 'Peg situation shakes out. If he doesn't make the cut as a backup, is waived and picked up by a team where he won't see starts, etc, he's an easy drop.

Glad to see the picks of Thomas, Necas, Kravtsov, Batherson, Comtois, and Hayton were good ones.

That's what I've been reading as well, and I really like Cirelli's game. Without minors, it's a balancing act of holding high upside guys and guys who've got golden opportunities. Cirelli appears to have that opportunity this year.

there was also a rummor that marner will leave toronto for sure...

i dont see Cirelli's ceiling to be very high...maybe 55-60...maybe i did jump a gun a bit there...but i do like 4 prospects from that list a lot so i tried to drop at least 3 and those were the 3.

I like any of those first 5 players you mentioned best. Along with Byram, Glass and Shesterkin if need a GK.

I would probably swap for any of those 8 depending on need and personal preference. Agree also I’d rather have any of them than Yamamoto and Comrie as well.

Caufield has a big upside, but somthing about him worries me a lot. I wonder if he’d be more like Skinner than say a fully fleshed elite fantasy forward. I’d probably rank him last among those I mentioned. I know others disagree with that though. I just think he’s riskier than the others like Turcotte, Kaprizov, Zegras and Byram. 3 of those last 4 would be my top choices.

I don't get the Laine love, that was a steep price, without a farm system its hard to gauge mid range prospects, dump them all and try to get blue chips. Id keep Necas and target glass and neds personally

So I'm a bit confused by this. Who's mid-range, who's blue chip? I think a bunch of people on dobberhockey would probably say that some of the 20 odd prospects I listed (both on my team and off) are blue chips. Don't see it?

54 pages of entertainment denouncing said rumour.

The other rumour, Cirelli is also being supported by him spending some time in camp in the #2C spot.

Not near as baseless as the one posted on here in June regarding Marner... I'm sure a better example could be found

well seems everyone is a blue chip these days lol.... Necas to me is borderline blue chip... blue chip to me is "cant miss" type guys, I think the term blue chip nowadays is way to broad... Hughes , Kakko, are blue chip to me, Turcotte, Byram , Caufeild are great prospects, just different definitions I think

I do like Glass a lot

So no doubt Kakko and Hughes are blue chips. They also went #1 and #2 in our redraft. Meanwhile guys like Kaprisov, Glass, Turcotte, Byram, Caulfield went undrafted. 168 players were drafted fwiw. Maybe some of those guys ought to have been drafted, but as it stands I can add any of them for free. Kakko or Hughes on the other hand will cost me a Karlsson or a Larkin. I'm not interested in paying that much at this point. Much rather add a couple guys people think have near that upside for free.
