In the banger league in my signature I had designs on competing this year anchored by my two elder statesman (and banger league studs) Buff and Weber.
BUT, if Buff hangs 'em up do I reconsider how I draft??
My draft is this Saturday so I might not know his status by then.

Weber isn’t a band aid. He has had 1 injury in the past 6 seasons.
It would suck to lose Buff as a keeper if he retires. Imo your 1sr round pick should always be just less than your last keeper in talent if that makes sense. So if you lose buff, you shouldn’t be too far off with a replacement. Maybe your team just has an off year and you regroup for next season

I would not let the loss of one player change your draft strategy. Draft to win the championship this season and if you get partway through the year and realize that you won't win, then you can start the process to try winning the following season. There is a 70% turnover of your roster from year to year so there's no point in throwing this season away.

Agree Buff is obviously a stud but with or without him you have a good crop of keepers including: 3 top-20 forwards, E. Kane who is a banger in his own right and a good pair of Dmen. Buff is not a high points guy so you'll still be in good shape if he does retire. Season hasn't started so no, you're not sunk. Are you at a slight disadvantage going into the draft? Perhaps.
Drafting well in the latter rounds can save it all for you. Time to put nose down and research who's sneaking onto PP's and moving up from 3rd to 2nd line, increasing ATOI... that might go later in rounds.

stay the course, although I would get rid of gustaffson, I think he digresses, stash buff on IR and then try and target a guy like Dumba who should slip in the draft

First, I don't think Buff is going to retire. I don't think he would have gone through this whole thing of informing the team that he needs some time away from the team and the team is supporting this if he knows he wants to retire. If he wants to retire at his age then tell the team I am retiring.
