Yikes......imagine coming back into the locker room after saying that. I can see him being moved more as a possibility now.

Maybe I'm mis-interpreting what he said and this is why context is so critical with these quotes.

I took that as a compliment to his top line. Saying that on most teams he would be on the top line without question but that the Jets top line is so good he may not be given the opportunity.

Factor in the context, translation, English being his second language, and the only person that knows what he meant would be Laine.
    Set roster weekly in H2H (Mon to Sun) - 16 Teams - start 6F, 3D, and 1G per week - Keep 2

    Points: 2 G / 2 A / 1 PPG / 1 PPA / 1 Hat Trick / 1 SHG / 1 SHA / 1 GWG - 3 Goalie Win / 2 Goalie Loss in SO or OT / 5 goalie SO

    Defense:

    Goalie:

Maybeeeeeeeee........but he said "with the merits I have, somewhere else I would have a chance to play with the best players". That to me sounds like he thinks he's entitled to play on the top line. Also, the story was translated to English so he was speaking his first language but there could be a translation error (anyone who has every used Google Translate knows that, lol)

If he was saying "I'm too good to be on the line I'm on" that's more of an insult on the coach than the players.

If it's "we're a great team and I want to be on the top line but my teams very strong" that's just a comment.

it is interesting though. everyone knows he can shoot but the rest of his play is what really comes into question. imagine if he did line up with an elite center, or even a solid center, what his production might be? But, he gets Little...

I get that.....but he still needs to be a hockey player as well, can't just play shooter. Also, who are you going to take off the 1st line. Connor? Wheeler? The Jets 1st line typically plays against the other teams best line, if Laine is out there and going off what he has shown so far, the other teams would exploit Laine in the d-zone IMO.

It might mean something, it might not. I see it as more public negotiations.

Anyone who's seen him intereviewed in English knows his English is just fine. Someone needs to ask him the same question in English so it's not lost in translation.

Look at some of the dreck that Crosby had to play with over his career, or Dale Hawerchuk, or Dennis Savard, to name just a few. Talk with your stats, not your mouth.

I agree. Listen to Maurice and Wheeler's interviews over the past few months. I don't think there's much lost in translation here. He had the same issues as a young player in Finland.

English is my second language as well, seeing interviews with him makes me believe he still thinks in Finnish and translated in his head before talking in English, im not sure it would sound whole lot different, even if he didn't mean those exact words.

he was a colorful guy from day one, he is not afraid to say what he thinks.....but if he wants to play with better players he needs to play better...he was bad last year and now it appears he is trying to put blame on his line-mates...

Well... when you're centred by Little... he's not wrong.
That's not a top line C... just ask Scheifele -
then there's the fact they've gone out the last two years to find an upgrade on Little for that #2C spot.

But Laine hasn't performed like a top line player. Top PP, sure, but not top line. He's got to earn it. Connor didn't complain when he got sent to the minors, or when he played on the 4th line. I'd say Laine's had it pretty good, compared to his 5v5 play.
