$7.5M in the third year, so that's his qualifying offer.

My cap league team is extremely happy with this contract. This is lower than my ‘best case scenario’. !!!

Just betting on himself and a higher qualifying offer but all in all I am happy with it. I really like Boeser but health has been an issue in his young career, I would like to see him prove he can stay healthy and on pace. In 3 years if he can prove to a reliable 30 goal scorer who can play 70+ games (hopefully some of those are in the playoffs) then pay the man.

I like how this has become a bit of a thing over this summer with Meier, Werenski, and McAvoy as well. The team gets a manageable cap hit and the player is assured of a solid raise on the next contract. Win-win.

Not to mention that Boeser becomes an RFA in the same year that $12M in bad contracts are shed in Eriksson Beagle and Roussel

It is a good deal. The key here is that it helps navigate them through the final years of Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle etc. They all come off the books at the same time or before this comes up.

Which means 3yrs before this team can really take the next necessary step beyond competing for a playoff spot

So pretty much a forward version of the McAvoy deal given the big AAV in the 3rd year. Makes sense I guess.

Astute observation, and one I'm sure was high on the minds of both sides when carving out this deal.

What a terrific deal for Canucks. Dollar for dollar, Boeser is a way better value than the Marner signing. Who would have thought Jim Benning would be the one to school Kyle "boy genius" Dubas on how to negotiate with RFAs.

To be fair, Dubas paid for some FA seasons and Boeser hasn't stayed healthy enough to score even 60 points in a season yet so he should come in quite a bit cheaper.

    1. Marner >>> Boeser
    2. 3yrs vs 6yrs
    3. Marner >>>> Boeser.
    4. Marner's a UFA at the end of the deal, Boeser's still a RFA

Van is still hoping for a full season from Boeser and for him to hit a pt/gm over a full season. Marner has done both.

I get that you hate Dubas... that's pretty clear, but I'd stop short of saying Benning > Dubas considering the contracts Benning has signed.
I don't see an Erickson floating around Toronto. Or a Schaller, or a Myers, or a Beagle. I mean...
