Nurse or Risto

It is a straight points only league. I have Karlsson, Josi, and Ghost protected and need to protect one more. I keep waivering between Risto and Nurse. It would be great to get some feedback...thanks gents!

I can't help but feel that Nurse's point production represents his NHL apex. You know they're going to give Klefblom chance number 34 to run PP1. Ristolainen will be/has been eclipsed by Dahlin. But multiple reports say that he requested a trade, ostensibly to somewhere where he can be the #1 defenseman again. If you're in a position where keeping one of these two is the choice, I'd go with Ristolainen and hope for a trade. Eventually Nurse will be surpassed by Bouchard so in a keep 5, you'll probably never consider keeping him again.

Neither player is in an enviable position to reach their full points-only potential.

Ristolainen is behind Dahlin, and now has to contend with Montour, Miller, and Jokiharju for secondary PP time.

Nurse is arguably behind Klefbom, with Bouchard waiting to take over the PP duties at some point. I also think Broberg and Persson have potential at some point to use up some PP time.

I don't love either player's situation, but if Ristolainen is ever traded, his value/opportunity could increase. Nurse, on the other hand, isn't going anywhere and is more likely going to eventually become the shutdown dman for the Oilers.

From what I read Bouchard isn't even going to crack the team this year since he wouldn't be getting quality minutes and I have a hard time believing the new coach gives Klefbom yet another chance.

That being said I don't care much for either of these guys (being a Nurse owner), but I would give the edge to Nurse in this one.

If it's a " requirment" to keep one I'll say Risto, just because I think he has more offensive ability ( just slightly) over Nurse.
Neither one is really in a position to succeed because of their skill set and better players in front of them.
As far as what someone posted about him ( risto) asking for a trade so he can be a #1 somewhere, I cant think of an NHL roster where he could be traded to that would make him a #1.
Maybe a #2 though.

Pretty close. I would go with Risto, but Nurse is pretty dependable for decent multicat scoring. He is trending up. Played quite well in expanded roles last year, I gambled on him in redraft.

I prefer having Ristolainen in a points only but overall I wouldnt feel great having him in that format

I do have Backstrom as a 3rd center behind Draisaitl and Seguin. I also have Grubauer, Rittich, and Markstrom behind F. Andersen. They are good keepers too. I'll have to update my signature but here is what the league looks like.

12 team - Protect 11 - Weekly Matchups - Dress 2 RW, 2LW, 2C, 4D, 1G
If a player is protected he cannot play in our minor league.

My Protected are

LW - Huberdeau, Domi
C - Draisaitl, Seguin
RW - P. Kane, Marner
D - Karlsson, Josi, Ghost, ???
G - F. Andersen

Need to keep one more of these options

D -- Nurse, Risto,
C -- Backstrom,
G -- Rittich, Grubauer, Markstrom,
RW -- Lebanc, Granlund (NSH)

Risto for me. Not by a huge amount but Risto has a nose for offence and will likely sniff out close to 40 points even with his reduced offensive role. I am not sure if Nurse can repeat last years totals unless Klefbom gets injured again.
