    Default Murray v Dubnyk Keeper

    Hi all,

Ive taken a gamble and only kept one goalie - John Gibson - in my league. We play 2 goalies weekly. Roto league, categories are W Save % GAA and SHO.

I believe I will have my choice of Dubnyk (who I am dropping) and Matt Murray in the redraft. I lost confidence in Dubnyk last year, although he did steady the ship down the stretch, by then I wasnt always playing him. Wild are pretty bad and you never know when they are going to have a blow out. Wins and SHO were down last year and not sure if they can bounce back.

On the other hand, Murray is on a team that appears to be stronger but it looks as though he will play less games overall. I will have the option of keeping either of these guys indefinitely, so Murray's age is also a slight consideraton.

    Who do you take here?

Dubnyk brings piece of mind imo. His numbers may not be as good this year as in the past. But he is the bonafide starter in minny

Murray should have better numbers but always seems to get injured or only play 50 max games.

I take Dubnyk myself. But I could be convinced otherwise

So..... Pittsburgh starts with a far better schedule. BTW - Are you planning to have a third GK for bench? Old guys who may not last the season - Rinne, Lundqvist, maybe Bishop - consider watching these closely so you can snag excellent backups on waivers who may play over 50%.

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

Hi, I forecast around 17 goalies being kept in my league. I will definitely draft a 3rd goalie, havent even got that far yet. I have the rights to Koskinen and can keep him for free. Because we have weekly lockout, backup goalies are not as valuable because it really impacts your W's.

Prediction: One of those three backups won’t be a backup by January. Last year, quick: name 3 GK’s who were supposed to be #1 who flamed out.

I’d take Murray over Dubnyk at this point.

Also Murray for me. Besides his younger age, it's also his contract situation that gives him the edge imo: Dubnyk is a UFA after the next two seasons and could possibly walk or be given a lesser contract to make room for Kahkonen or another young guy. Murray is only under contract for next season, but is a RFA after that which - in addition to him still being in his prime then - makes it way more likely that he'll be resigned as a starter.

Give me Murray... Then a few rounds later, give me DeSmith (you're going to need him)

I don't view either as a good keeper in a limited keeper, so I'd look to next year only. Who fits better with Gibson's schedule?

I trust Dubnyk to more reliably get starts over Murray. I have Murray as my #1 on a team I took over last year, and there was little else in net. I had a number of weeks where I simply failed to get enough starts to count - and I had daily starts. If you have that situation, and you take Murray, you have to get DeSmith, as a poster above said.

I think both choices are for next year only. Dubnyk is held back by the lackluster team in front of him (they could surprise mind you). But Murray is in a team that can win, despite his own injuries woes. Your best bet is that Murray can put up solid numbers for a few months and trade him ASAP while he has value. I guess Murray has more value in general and that would nudge me into picking him over Dubnyk

    Hi all,

So this draft is on in a few days. In addition to Murray and Dubnyk, the following goalies were not kept and are available: Mrazek, Lehner, Rittich, Schneider.

I'm still up in the air, certainly seems like posters are split on Dubnyk and Murray. I'm also considering Mrazek now, given the team in front of him.

    Help me resolve this deadlock!

Mrazek is also a good option but I would rank him behind both Murray and Dubnyk.
