Is Ghost a good buy-low candidate? Does he bounce back to a 50+ point D this year

I believe he is, if you look at Philadelphia in the last few years they do a year to year swing unrivaled in the NHL. I expect most of their guys to rebound. 50+ pts might be attainable imo

Not sure he'll reach his total from two years ago but I think he'll bounce back and have a solid year. Provorov and Sanheim are in the mix and could pose a threat for prime PP minutes.

I'm worried as a buddy of mine pointed out recently- I might be undervaluing the Vigneault factor. He never seems to get scoring out of the backend. Apparently never even a 50 point dman (Yeesh!). I was going off the highly scientific good year/bad year protocol lol- but AV might sink that. On top of that I was reading how crazy unlucky Provolones IPP was so with an extra handful of assists he doesn't look like the clearcut number two guy (offensively) anymore. All that being said I think his underlying metrics do have him set for a bounceback. It just might be a bounceback capped at 50 with the minutes to accomish even that getting poached by Provo/sanheim. I own him in every league. You can't sell after last season and especially in cal leagues where his contract is money in the bank. Ugh- looks like a tough year- hope for a trade???

I think 50 is unlikely with Vigneault. I also am expecting some more stupid stuff to go down with the Flyers' D, so be prepared for anything. I'm pretty sure Sanheim, Braun, and Niskanen are on the squad opening night, but it wouldn't surprise me if they move anybody else.

    Emu nailed it for me.

See a bounceback for Ghost... but am also concerned that it's capped >50 after considering the AV factor.

That whole 50 point ceiling with AV cannot be stated enough. It's not a coincidence, it's the way he coaches. Ghost could have a bounce back season but I'd still bet on under 50 points.
I owned ghost, provorov and sanheim. Once AV was hired, I traded them all this offseason.

    GET WELL SOON, DOBBER.

I had a look at Alain Vigneault's teams and he never had an offensive defenseman with the potential of Gostisbehere (65+ pts). True, he never had a D with more than 50 pts, but I'm not sure it would have been different with another coach.

Note that I have not pushed the analysis further and I do not really know the coaching style of AV.

Best offensive D under Vigneault's team:

    Montreal 1997-2001 (Brisebois, Weinrich, Malakhov)
Vancouver 2006-2013 (Javanovski, Ohlund, Aucoin, young McCabe)
NYR 2013-2018 (21 games of Yandle, McDonagh, half season of Shattenkirk)

I think he will be around 50-55 pts this season.

    My two cents
Points Only Keep 8 league with 8 teams.

Excellent points. Yes, I believe AV will hold Ghostisbehere back a bit (I don't see him hitting 65, that's for sure), but 50+ pts is very achievable. I will be shocked if he doesn't eclipse 50 (barring injury, of course).

    A dman with a previous 65+pt season, coming off a 40pt season..
simple answer - yes, a real good buy low opportunity - especially with all the talk of Sanheim chomping into his PP time

Maybe a buy low relatively speaking. But his current owner will play exactly the same card and tell you that there's nowhere to go but up. Ghost isn't someone I'd target in a multi cat league like yours anyway. Even if he reaches 50pts he won't be worth what you'll have to pay for his name value...

Not necessarily. A lot of owners are impulsive and emotional. They just got let down by Ghost.

Point taken. Besides the level headed owners there's also one with the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately approach every now and then... Not in a competitive league though.

In most cases buying low doesn't work because the owner has a decent feel for a player's true value. You have to try lot and hope for a few bites. One or two successful buy-low trades makes it worth the effort.

FWIW, I acquired Gostisbehere and Heiskanen for Klingberg in a points-only cap league. I feel that is a bit of a buy low, considering the salaries. Gostisbehere has one of the best contracts in the league. If he scores 50 and Heiskanen scores 40, with a combined salary less than Klingberg and his potential 60 pts, I think I'm way ahead. I would not have been able to make that deal after Gostisbehere's 65 pt season.
