Default Awful goalie draft - how do I salvage this?

Just finished my draft for my one year league and ended up with a terrible goalie situation. Being a 14 team league, goalies went much further than expected and I ended up not drafting them well. There's not much left on the wire either.

    Categories are:

G, A, PPP, PIM, SOG, HIT, BLK, W, GAA, SV%, SHO

My roster (also in my sig) is below:

    C: Bergergon, ROR, Trocheck
    LW: Ovechkin, Tkachuk, Ferland
    RW:Wheeler, Reinhart, Zucker
    D: Klingberg, Hamilton, Dahlin, Nurse
    G: Lundqvist, Talbot, Korpisalo
    BN: E. Staal, McNabb
    IR+: Palmieri

I'm thinking of potentially trading for Rittich or giong for Goergiev to get a tandem, though I don't mind doing a bigger trade. I could trade away a D like Klingberg for the right goalie... I'd just need to figure out who to target and with what player...or I can pick up an FA.

    "Notable" goalies available as FAs:
    Saros
    Halak
    Smith
    Koskinen
    Georgiev
    Kinkaid
    Anderson
    Demko
    Elliott
    Allen
    Campbell

Teams that have 3 goalies (making it slightly easier to trade) include:
    1. Fleury, Greiss, Rittich (I could try get the CGY tandem)
    2. Holtby, Jones, Quick
    3. Hart, Schneider, Smith
    4. Rask, Hutton, Blackwood
    5. Rinne, Dubnyk, Crawford
    6. Gibson, Raanta, Howard (I could try pry Raanta out while he's still injured...)

Again, slim picking in terms of trading too. I could go for a different starter too but it would cost me since the other team only has 2 G.

    Thoughts?

You will probably have to overpay for goalies but yes try for Raanta

If not just pick up koskinen and you should be ok

Koskinen over Korpisalo for sure. Georgiev could be a good handcuff as well - and he's for free. The Rangers tandem as well as the Oilers starter doesn't look spectacular, but solid enough. If you're not that confident in Koskinen, you could try to switch Talbot for Smith, then you'd have all the Edm G starts covered as well. But mybe rather keep rolling the dice with talbot. Less starts, but for a better team...

Try to package one of your goalies with a skater and aim for Rask - then pick up Halak.

I agree with Duster Dave that you should pick up Halak. And maybe Georgiev. I think Lundqvist, Georgiev, and Halak - you’d be in a far better position, trades or not.

Looking at those other teams in your league, they all have some question marks, so not all is lost. Goalies are becoming so difficult to deal with. I figure Saros will play almost half this season... This could be the year NSH gives him the Lion share down the stretch to point him to a playoff run. As good as Rinne has been, they have yet to win the prize and that window is closing soon enough. You might be pleasantly surprised with Talbot. Team will be so good that if he just stays consistent, he could run with the ball.

I would start by grabbing Saros.

    McDavid/Necas/ Kucherov/Bjorkstrand/Rust/Nugent Hopkins/Cirelli/Zegras/- Letang/Morrissey/Dahlin - Swayman/Saros/Skinner

    Prospects include:
    McTavish/Clarke/Bordeleau
    Dumais/Korchinski/Hutson

Don't worry I'm not going to say anything more than I have to. If that.

Wait until the season starts, a few weeks in someone will panic and drop a goalie or two after a few bad starts, or someone will get injured and you might be able to scoop up a back-up turned starter.

Your goalie situation isn't going to get any worse so might as well wait and see if anything develops / changes before making changes.

You've got a couple decent options to piece this together.
I think it depends on how OCD you are with your pools

The best fantasy option would be to grab Saros & Halak - they play for strong defensive teams and strong teams as well.
They'll both push 40 starts this season. Rinne's getting older - so is Rask.
Saros is the heir apparent & Halak is there to lessen Rask's regular season load.

These are the two best individual options - but you HAVE to be on starting goalies every night... as neither are a plug and play.

The next best option would be to grab a tandem - Smith & Koskinen or Lundy & Georgiev.
Both have strong off night schedules (Edm 42; NYR 39)

with 6 bench. I'd be okay running 4 goalies
Pick your tandem & Saros + Halak (Nsh 20; Bos 26 off night games - less conflicts with your tandem)

You've basically put yourself in a position of work,
    but not panic.

I think that you have a really good team for a 14 team league, and shouldn't get too discouraged. Other teams will have weaknesses, so there are definitely some mutual benefits to be had out there. At the same time, goaltending is so unpredictable in a H2H format that you could do really well in your skater categories, and then manage to win GAA/SV%/SHO with a couple strong starts in a week. All hope is not lost, and my advice is to not rush into anything right away (although, post-draft aftermath is often the time when teams are most panicked and willing to trade...).

The way your team is stacked at skaters, I would trade Hank for a further skater upgrade (because the goalies will have value due to reduced supply. Keep Talbot, grab Saros and Halak, punt wins, and just have some solid ratios week to week. You win a majority of the skater cats, and then you win GAA & Sv% more than half of the time. Ws you might win occasionally, and SO is a crapshoot anyways.

This is great advice... I'm thinking of applying some of that to my draft strategy since work horse Gs are just unavailable by the time I pick. Good stuff Eskibro!

I've used that approach to great effect in leagues with similar setups before. Good luck!

You are in a 14 team league and you have 3 starting goalies. I don't think your position as a dire as you think it is.
