We have been running my league for 8 years now. Tavares was my 2nd pick from the initial 2012 draft. I have decided to trade him with 2 years left with Spezza for Rakell 5 more years, Zegras and also a 2nd rnd pick 2020 and a fourth. In the 2020 draft my league will be full of superstars coming back in the main draft. Heck Tavares will be available. We have a 14 teams league with rosters of 26 + 4 minors.
I think looking at the big picture, I did very well.

I get that Tavares will probably double Rakell's point total, but I look at rhe big picture. Im sort of throwing the towel for this season. I still have great assets to move during the season. Subban and Scheifele are ufa's at the end of my season. I still have EK and Hall at 2 years. Il looking for a retool for the 2020-21 season.

If your plan is to win this year or next, I'd also disagree. If you are only looking beyond two years, the return is impossible to judge without knowing more about how contracts wor in your league. Very hard to gauge the value of these picks.

I understand, i guess its hard for me to explain. We have a sallary cap of 70. Each players start with a max of 5 years with an option of 4 more years. After each year, teams are aloud to resign 4 players per season. Once the players hit the UFA status then this player goes back to the main draft. Looking at the league these players will be available in the 2021 draft.

Im running this more like a ohl team. Ill trade to get as many 2021 picks to reaload my roster and be a dominant team for 3 to 4 years instead of just trying to win now and lose all my free agents for nothing.
