    Default Marner vs Ziba (multicat)

    League in sig (salary cap)

I’ve been offered Zibanejad (5.3M)+ 7th rd pick for my Marner (~10M) + 12th rd pick.
I’m leaning towards accepting but would like some opinions.

Just cause it’s multicast it does not mean each player needs to be a banger...offence is still hardest to get and he is absolutely elite...he will be pushing 100 points next full season he plays

From all the projections I’ve seen, they were about 5 points apart and Zibanejad being 5M cheaper, figured he’d be more valuable. I like Marner a lot but he’s often overvalued in some leagues imo.

I wouldn't be opposed to something like this, maybe try to get a higher pick on their side though. Marner is great, but not nearly as much @ 10-11M, especially when you'll still have another 11 spots to fill after keepers. Zibanejad is on a fantastic contract and puts up similar value I'd expect, from hitting.

Also as a side note, I think I'd be keeping Raanta over Demko. Demko is very much so the backup this year (and likely next too) and you have a team to compete now. Raanta is a risk, but has been a top goaltender when healthy. I know that is a big when, but you have to take the winning play in this situation and thats to gamble on Raanta.

You need to get a much bigger pick upgrade for that.

In a 1 year... sure, run away from the chance of a Marner holdout. But in a keeper, give me Marner 100% more then Zib. Regardless of your viewed projections this year.. Marner is just 1 year into his new >PPG status. We’ve seen the best of Zib. Marner hasn’t come close to peaking yet. Long term this could really bite you.

I appreciate the feedback and definitely understand your point of view.
I’ve mentioned this in another thread but the same owner has offered Stone + Lebanc for Marner. He said he’d be willing to thrown in a late pick as well. Is this something you’d consider more? Obviously Lebanc will be one of the most valuable owns this year given his $1M dollar cap hit and expected production. But is it worth losing an elite player for it?

We only start 2 goalies and already have Hart and Bobrovsky. I would only be keeping Demko in the hopes he gets the starting nod next year (markstrom has one year left on his contract). Also I couldn’t justify keeping a $4.3M cap hit on the bench when I’m already in a cap crunch (hence why I’m considering trading guys like Marner & Bobrov)

Do you have cap problems right now?

if not just don’t deal Marner. This is a weird situation where Marner value dropped while he didn’t play a single game and it will keep dropping till he plays one. Keep him, let him rebuild his value and then flip him out f u need to.

yes I have cap issues. If I were to keep the guys bolded in my sig, I’d be left with an average of $1.8M available per player at the draft. There are some great values in that price range but having to draft another 10 players, it’ll be hard to stay competitive even though I have solid keepers.

In a two for one, rarely does the GM getting the lesser two assets really prevail. In that deal, your really downgrading Marner and his yet to be determined cap hit for Stone who isn’t cheap himself (and not really a banger either) just to take on a $1M cap hit (yes great value) for Lebanc. Eventually Lebanc will get paid what he’s worth and at that time you’ll have two lesser assets for more money than Marner.

Again, in a 1 year... most definitely I’d consider something like this but this is a keeper and to be successful, really need to look beyond this year.

Go find a cheap $1M ish player who will be to Lebanc, the difference that Stone is to Marner. There is how you really flush out value now and long term.

Otherwise I’d be asking for a helluva better pick.

Wouldn’t even contemplate this unless as said above a 1 year league due to holdout potential....
