Default On the bubble - a few last moment decisions. Will rep!

If you don't mind I will think out loud a bit as well.

I need to drop 9 of the following (league in sig if you think i missed something):

    Nick Bjugstad F - PIT
Max Comtois (R) F - ANA Minor Leagues
    Dominik Kahun F - PIT
    Anders Lee F - NYI
    Artturi Lehkonen F - MON
    Jakob Silfverberg F - ANA
    Daniel Sprong F - ANA
    Kristian Vesalainen (R) F - WPG
    Tony DeAngelo D - NYR
    Justin Faulk D - CAR
Henri Jokiharju D - BUF Minor Leagues
    Devan Dubnyk G - MIN

My thoughts (bold is an easy drop imo):

    Nick Bjugstad F - PIT
Max Comtois (R) F - ANA - might have a top 6 role, worth keeping for a 40 point year and more upside than Silf, Sprong
    Dominik Kahun F - PIT - top 6 potential?
Anders Lee F - NYI - can trade for 5th round picks in 19&20, but he would go in the 2nd or 3rd if he were available.
    Artturi Lehkonen F - MON
    Jakob Silfverberg F - ANA
    Daniel Sprong F - ANA
Kristian Vesalainen (R) F - WPG - always good to have some prospects since we dont have a farm, but this year is a strong draft and i have 2 1st round picks (4,8 OA)
Tony DeAngelo D - NYR - looking good at end of year but Trouba/Fox factor
Justin Faulk D - CAR - could be great value if traded
    Henri Jokiharju D - BUF
Devan Dubnyk G - MIN - my G is strong but good insurance and high on Dobbers list

So it becomes a keep 3 of:

Max Comtois (R) F - ANA - might have a top 6 role, worth keeping for a 40 point year and more upside than Silf, Sprong
    Dominik Kahun F - PIT - top 6 potential?
Anders Lee F - NYI - can trade for 5th round picks in 19&20, but he would go in the 2nd or 3rd if he were available.
Devan Dubnyk G - MIN - my G is strong but good insurance and high on Dobbers list

I have to sort this out by Sept 1. Still working on a trade to consolidate but its not easy this time of year. Your thoughts are welcomed!

It may be boring to go with all vets, but I think Lee, Faulk, and Dubnyk are your best bets.

I don't know how Lee is not a sure fire keeper.

Will do! I hesitate because he is a 50 point player and Id rather have someone with a potential for more. 50 points is borderline for a F in our league. Also Lee likely isnt going to play with Barzal at ES so who is gonna set him up? Brassard? Nelson? I dunno... far fall from JT.

Lee and Faulk I'd keep for sure. The last one comes down to Dubnyk vs Comtois. You can keep the young guy and try to re-draft a third goalie early (since G depth is needed) or you can opt to keep Dubnyk and draft a breakout candidate. I'm not high on Dubnyk these days because I'm not high on the team in front of him.

What is your reasoning for having Henri Jokiharju as a surefire keeper?

this is a good question when you consider how many 1 way contracts Buf has on D. Add in Montour, Dahlin and currently Ristolainen eating PP time up...

Comparing to DeAngelo - Trouba - is the only real PP threat to him at the moment.
As much as Fox is hyped... does he get a top 6 spot this year? How many years did people annoint Pulock, Theodore a spot only to wait another 2 years before he became offensively relevant?

If you have Joki as a keeper... then DeAngelo, who has a much more stable NHL foothold - and arguably more offensive upside - should be there as well. I'd actually want to swap them. Keep DeAngelo

Well, look at that! He sure does. I read that backward.

Yes joki is an easy drop in Buf. I fixed the original post, it was confusing.

People think Faulk rebounds? 35pt D are not dressable on a top team. 40 pt potential is better so yeah, its between Faulk and Tony D really.

As for G depth, last two season I ran with 2 and it was fine. When Vasi went down I grabbed Domingue, and would do the same this year with either back up if an injury were to occur. Dubnyk was aquired for Rattie and my 3rd round pick this year (where he'd be drafted essentially) as insurance prior to the trade dealine/roster freeze. Mrazek, Schneider, Blackwood and many of the 1A/1b goalies will likely be available in the draft and I agree that the Wild wont win that many games this year.

Comtois I like, but i can see him being a very streaky player aka hard to dress. As mentioned I also have 4th and 8th OA and those two will be better than Comtois so he's further down my prospect list as of 2019/2020.

    Keep it coming guys!

Hate to add more of the same, but I’m going with Lee, Dubnyk and Faulk. I think if you really have a feeling for deangelo or Comtois, I’m sure they’ll be available in the draft. Not sure how deep your League Is though. Carolina seems to really want Faulk on PP1. I don’t really agree but hey. He has a better chance on PP1 than deangelo does on NYR
