Yeah playing devil’s advocate here. Do the same for Drouin and the results are not as good as mackinnon.

Laine can go both ways. But to answer’s OP’s post. I dont think he has peaked but i don’t his his ceiling is as high as people see him. I would treat him like a 60-65 points player and 70-75 on good years. With more Goals than Assists.

His value is still high because people still see him as a PPG or more player which is why he’s in trade talk to much. Lower your expectations and you will be happy to have him in your team

If he has shown anything it's a lack of consistency

It's funny that Drouin's name came up since he has the same video game problem as Laine but his game is NHL online.

In defense of Laine, there is apparently a bit of a rift in the Jets' locker room between players like Wheeler and Scheifele on one side and Laine and others on the other side. Apparently some of the vets feel that Laine isn't trying hard enough off the ice and spends too much time playing video games, etc. If I recall correctly, I believe someone threw Laine's video game into the shower after a game last year.

If any of the rumors are even remotely true, they'd explain a little about why Laine had a difficult season last year.

90 points locked into the second line? Seems a bit far fetched unless he scores 40 PPP!

I just looked up Laine's inital projection from the 2016 dobber guide and it has his potential 50-40-90. Although he is only 21, seems like the general consensus already is he is a 70-75 pt potential player at best, heavily on goals

LOL would agree with this.... but seriously though seems like he wasn't happy in WPG. Let's see how his contract goes.

Maybe. A lot of players are just inconsistent, even at the top of the league.

I don't think he has peaked. I think the big issue is problems with the team he is on. I feel like it's going to be a situation like Seguin where eventually Laine will end up on another team then he will start to light it up.

you cant teach that heavy , accurate one timer he has in his bag of tricks . I'll assume over the coming years a variety of coaches will try to get him to ''buy in'' on improving his 2-way game to become a more complete winger .
