Seems like the game is passing him by... Good try I guess and low risk. That forward group needs all the help it can get.

He is an upgrade in Edmonton but Brassard has lost what he once had.. I would not want him on my team!! But let's remain positive!!

I was so pumped when the Penguins traded for Brassard, and it was a great trade on paper at the time. But he's cooked, starting with the trade to Pittsburgh it's like he just forgot how to be an effective player. You don't even really need to know how to read one of these charts to see how bad he was last season:

I'm not entirely sure he is even an upgrade over Colby Cave. It's certainly worth a shot to see if he can rekindle some of the old magic, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

As I type this, it's not an official signing yet that I can see. I won't be surprised if it happens though. There's been rumors around this happening for a while now. The Oilers need a 3C and Brassard, although he's not the same offensive player he once was, would be a decent add. Not much to get excited about but as mentioned, he's an upgrade to what they have right now. I'd imagine it will be a 1yr deal in the $1.5-2M range.

Looks like Laraque jumped the gun:

Source I've talked to says no confirmation on Brassard signing in Edm but Holland still working away at things to add depth. Only $2.4 mil in cap space, so Brassard would realistically have to take half of that or less to leave Oilers some wiggle room
