    Default Heiskanen Ceiling

    Hi all,

Interested to know your thoughts on Heiskanen's ceiling and if/when he becomes PP! QB in Dallas.

Equally interested to see if any fans who have watched him closer than I have think he can increase his Blocks and Hits coverage? Not unusual for a rookie to take a few years in these cats, but 30 odd hits is a bit of a cat killer.

My league plays G A PPP Shots PIMs Hits Blocks Takeaways

    Thanks.

I dont see him improving much on his hits and blocks. He's just not that type of Dman.

As far as his upside, I can see him being a 50ishpt type Dman most seasons, but upside means little if the opportunity isnt there, and I am not sure it will be anytime soon.

Yeah he's limited by opportunity not skill right now. As long as Klingberg remains in Dallas he'll get the bulk of PP1 time over Heiskanen.

Heiskanen really isn't a good option in your league. His HITs, PIMs, and Blocks will stay low, and he won't get more than 40ish points until Klingberg slows down, which won't happen for a long time. Klingberg is in his prime and Dallas will happily keep throwing him out on the PP instead of Heiskanen for the next decade.

Sorry to jump this line but which young d-man is similar to Heiskanen in skills in this format, but offers much more in opportunity? Makar jumps out but who else?

As mentioned...Makar, Hughes. I'd also add Dahlin (obviously) and Bouchard. And I would probably take a shot at Boqvist and Fox. Boqvist is seemingly behind Gustafsson and Fox behind Trouba, but I like the chances of Boqvist and Fox surpassing the veteran moreso than Heiskanen surpassing Klingberg. Gustafsson is a year away from UFA status, and with Chicago's cap situation, I'm not sure he is re-signed there. And imo Trouba is not a prototypical PP specialist, so I think Fox will eventually assume that role in New York.

What do you think of DeAngelo's chances of being the guy instead of Fox? He seemed capable of handling the job last season for short stints.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

Thats true, but I can trade Heiskanen for a lot and get Cernak thrown in. Cernak covers my cats very well whereas Hesikanen is the big name. I just dont want to trade the next Letang, ie a 50-60 point guy who will also throw 100 hits and take 120 blocks.

Heiskanen could be a 60+ point guy.. I don't think I would be moving him unless I was getting something juicy back!!

He certainly has the potential, but it is not happening in Dallas, and Dallas is not going to trade him (or Klingberg).

It is very rare for any team to have two 50+ pt dmen, and when that happens the team is usually in the top 10 in NHL scoring (Toronto, San Jose, Minnesota a couple of years ago when Suter and Dumba both eclipsed 50). Dallas is no where near top 10 in NHL scoring, so with Klingberg a lock for over 50, I don't see Heiskanen also getting over 50, let alone 60+ pts. The skill is certainly there, but the opportunity is not and won't be for the foreseeable future. Dallas as a team needs to increase their scoring significantly for Heiskanen to eclipse 50.

Dog eat dog... right now, I'd give it to DA, Fox hasn't shown he's ready. hasn't had a chance to do so yet - World Championships - he got scratched in meaningful games. I could see him in the AHL this year, least to start.

In another year - Rasmus Sandin will be deep in this discussion.

When I think of Heiskanen's ceiling my mind keeps getting pulled into Doughty comparisons.

Anything is possible...short-term, I feel they go with Trouba, which relegates DeAngelo to 2nd unit PP. Long-term, I just feel Fox has the highest offensive potential of the three, so feel he will eventually be the go-to option (more than likely won't happen for a few years, though).
