Hey everyone, let me start by saying Dmen are highly valued in my league because they earn an extra point for every goal and assist. So the top Dmen in the league are actually more valuable that the top forwards in my pool.

For several years I’ve tried to strengthen my defense with limited success. Last season I used as a retooling year to change up my keepers and get a good draft position.

I have the 5th overall pick.

My keepers are set and I only have one dman I’m keeping (Gustafsson). My goal is to draft a dman with my first pick. But...I’m sort of torn between:

    - Drafting Makar or Q. Hughes (one of the two very likely available at 5); or

    - taking the best available more established D (to be determined, but probably along the lines of Heiskanen, Girard, Theodore, Montour - that sort of range)

I know this is hard to answer right now without knowing exactly the Dmen available come draft time, but do you think it would be worth taking a chance on one of the profile D prospects to lock him up long term? I need D help now, but also don’t want to miss a chance at a potential future elite D man I can build around.

Those guys aren't old by any means so you COULD draft one and not worry about age. I think in this case, you may be better off drafting one of them. I really like Heiskanen. Just my 2 cents.
Points only keeper. 12 Teams. No pos requirements. 18 skaters / 3 goalies (2 count for points.) G/A = 1 point each (includes goalies) Goalies = 1.5 for W / 4.5 for SO. Minors - 4 year protection. Prospects added during their draft year only. Undrafted = waivers.

Hmm interesting. I think there’s a chance Heiskanen is there at the draft as the current GM has a strong team and he probably won’t make the cut.

If he’s available would he be a better option short term and long term over Makar and Hughes?

I really like Heiskanen, already playing big minutes and will only get better. If he's available get him

Makar and Hughes, It's a coin flip really. I'd slightly tip towards Makar.

I would go Makar. I like Makar’s chances of beating out Girard for PP1 then Heiskanen beating out Klingberg. Plus I like Colorado’s PP better as well. And this is totally my opinion, I think Makar has 65+ point potential in a few seasons. I just don’t see that in Heiskanen.
