    Default Carlson vs Rielly

    Hi Everyone

    I'm in a dynasty league with 14 teams, 23 player rosters and the starting positions are 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 1FWD, 5D, 1Util and 2G (5BENCH)
Our league categories are G, A, PIM, PPG, PPP, SHP, SOG, HIT, BLK, W, GA, GAA, SV, SV%, SHO.
We have a 20 player farm team and you are allowed to move players up and down the farm within the GP limit (164 for skaters and 82 for goalies) (On top of the 4 adds we get through the week we also get an additional 3 minor league roster movements. Which means if you have the space on your main roster you're adding 3 man games each week which can be huge if you have minor league players that can make a difference in any category).

I've been offered Rielly for Carlson straight up. My question is would you take it? I think Carlson will be the better option for the next couple of years, and my team should be in the mix for going for it. But there's also the age factor of Rielly to take in.

    My team is as follows.

LW - Panarin, Schenn (C/LW), Kreider, Pacioretty
C - MacKinnon, Barzal, Johansen, Getzlaf
RW - Giroux, Kessel, E. Lindholm, J.T. Miller
D - Giordano, Carlson, Doughty, Ekblad, Chychrun, Leddy
G - Rask, Rinne, Saros, Rittich, Talbot

    Minors
F - Frost, Hintz, T. Bertuzzi (approaching max games this year), Lundestrom, D. O'Regan, R. Pitlick, A. Suomela, Veleno, O. Koivula, Nygard, S. Poulin, J. Berggren, S. Holmstrom,
    D - A. Fox, M. Grzelcyk, R. Sandin, D. Toews
    G - Gillies, Parsons, Vanecek
    12 Team, dynasty league H2H

    GPT4, GAA, SV%
    4C, 4LW, 4RW, 6D, 2UTIL, 2G, 8BN, 4IR+ 10player farm team (going up to 12)

    C: McDavid, Eichel, Schenn (C/LW), Getzlaf, N. Foligno (C/LW), Zajac, J. Staal
LW: Draisaitl (C/LW), Huberdeau, Guentzel (CLW), Mantha (LW/RW), Palat, McCann (C/LW), Neal (LW/RW)
RW: Pastrnak, Pavelski (C/RW), Palmieri, Hornqvist, Bertuzzi (LW/RW), Bennett (LW/RW)

This is tough... I mean, age isn't a huge factor - least not looking at just the two players. Carlson's 29 after all

The age of his teammates though - Backstrom & Ovie is something to consider - two main drivers in his last 2 years production.
Then there's Rielly's inflated secondary assist rates. I imagine several of them are Marner's doing - finding something out of nothing.

In the next 3 years.. This really comes down to preference. I mean, hits, blocks, sog... there's not a lot of difference.
The main difference is the ages of the teams - half of the Leafs top 6 are entering magical year #4 of their careers.
Half of Wsh's is entering year #14.

All things equal, I pull the Homer card & go Rielly

Rielly for me too. Carlson is actually a player I'd quietly be shopping as I feel his value will start to drop in the next 2-3 years as he gets into his early 30s and the team around him starts to decline. He still has loads of value in the short-term, but now is the best time to trade him, imo.

Thanks everyone, just re-affirming what I had initially though. I pulled the trigger on it!

Good deal for you. I like both players a lot, but I think Rielly's long-term value is definitely superior.

Good for yuo. I was going to say to keep Morgan Rielly. Ops, I said it. Even if Carlson is still better for the next 1 or 2 years
the questions is by how much?! I mean I shouldnt be much difference between the two - Carlson a little more blocks, Morgan more sog. Carlson some more PPP, M0rgan more goals. Like the others have said, now would be the best time to trade Carlson and take a stud in Morgan Rielly.
