    Default Josi or Theodore

Long term keeper salary league. Who’s the better keep? Taking into consideration the hefty raise coming josi’s Way.

Josi is the proven one but also due for a big pay raise. Theodore is on a good contract and so I am tempted to keep him, assuming you can move Josi for a ton. Josi is better no doubt, but once salaries are taken into consideration, Theodore should provide more value on a very good Vegas team.

I tend to agree with this. I mean, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Josi will earn $10+ million a year on his new contract. If that is the case, I'd definitely prefer Theodore. Josi is certainly the more proven and likely will outproduce Theodore for the next 5-6 years, even if Theodore increases his value (which he should). However, the gap between them shouldn't be large enough to justify the difference in salary. Theodore's contract is awesome for a player with his potential and opportunity.

I read the title as Jose Theodore lol.

    I'll echo the posts above.

Theodore would be my choice based on salaries, age, potential, and opportunity.

I think Josi gets more like 8m. Nsh doesn't have huge outlier contracts - tax free state remember.

That said. Theodore's on a much friendly cap league deal long term

This might happen, but my feeling is that Josi was underpaid for years and will want to recoup on that contract. And with players like Karlsson and Doughty setting the bar (also in low-tax States), I think Josi will get paid. Not to mention that his contract isn't up for another year, so with inflation his salary cap % may be less than Karlsson/Doughty and still eclipse $10 AAV.

I also feel that dealing Subban was a preemptive move in preparation for paying Josi that kind of salary.

Josi will definitely get paid, and I would anticipate it being 10+ million.

HOWEVER, if you are in a chance to win now, then I think that you have to keep him and go for it. Even with a bit pay raise, depending on the league size, you should be able to trade him out next summer.

And Ryan Ellis' raise from 2.5 to 6.25

Granlund (5.75), Smith (4.25) and Josi (4) are there 3 next big UFA's.

true, but I still feel that dealing Subban had more to do with Josi's extension. Not many teams would spend that much money on their top three dmen (assuming that Josi does sign for $10+ million I'm predicting).

"And with players like Karlsson and Doughty setting the bar (also in low-tax States)..."

As a California resident I can confirm this is NOT a low tax state. Having moved here from Ontario, it's shocking how much we pay and how little we get.

In other news, I also can keep Theodore, forfeiting my 21st and last pick to do it. It's either Theodore (rd 21), Gallagher (rd 13) or F. Andersen (rd 3).

I replied to your other thread. Are these the same league? Honestly, I have no idea why Andersen isn't a no-doubt keeper for you.

My apologies. I read somewhere a list of low-tax States and thought California was on the list. Sorry.

To answer your question, I'd keep Theodore. Good value for the last pick (21st round), imo.

Seadawg - No apology needed, I actually chuckled when I read your post. The state of California should be apologizing.

stevegamer - yep, I saw your post and thanks for that. I am biased against keeping a goalie with a high pick and was certain not to do it until all the other GMs kept one, removing a lot of good options for redraft. When I saw this thread was just looking for opinions on the 'value' of Theodore vs my other options.
