I don't think Waddell is a very good GM so they didn't need to do this. I understand why they did though.
3-year deal for Waddell to keep him in Raleigh. Removes him from Minnesota Wild GM consideration.
The Canes needed to do this!

As a Wild fan, I am happy for both Waddell and the Minnesota Wild. I don't think he's a great GM and there are plenty of better options available. I think Waddell was just using the Wild opening as leverage to get himself a better deal in Carolina.

I agree that they didn't need to do it because his history proves he isn't that special, but I understand the optics in why they did it. But the more important part of this information was probably the next tweet from Chip Alexander:

I can't list my 2nd main keeper as there are too many players, but it is a keep all H2H points-only league
So 1, 2 people leaving is not "many" holes.
2 your AHL coach isn't the front office, and he might have a big part of current player development, but he probably has a non-existent part on current roster construction
3 your AGM underneath your figurehead GM is probably not that big of a loss. Everyone knows who the real important people in the front office is.
By no means do I think Waddel is anything great. I was just simply stating they have some good things going on in Carlina, whether its mostly Waddel, Tlusty or whomever else ( I dont follow the Canes all that closerly ) its best to keep consistency with the good things currently going on. So keeping Waddell in my opinion, needed to happen.
Well he is a loss. We don't know all the workings behind the scenes. I don't. I'm quite sure you don't either. When you lose layers of management in any organization it's a loss. That's rather simple. Many times I think its fair to say the AGM does just as much work as GM and maybe even more. So yes, the AGM's are very important people.
Good stuff. I didnt think they would, and I didn't think it was necessary. Honestly, I think it was done for the fan base too, because their are a multitude of idiot Canes fans out there who would be out for blood if he did indeed depart. Although, nice to make the situation a *little* less volatile. Good to see Tulsky on for solid term.
An ECF run does not, a contender, make. We got lucky, and need to create more control in that regard. Good, young team with many quality pieces, but hard not to be skeptical of a heart and soul team such as Carolina in that stacked (or getting stacked) Metro.
Also, not to be rude to fans of the Wild (who doesn't like Minnesota?), but what a tough spot to be in for an incoming GM with those contracts and term leftover.
