For this year and next two, in salary cap league with Wins and SV% as the goalie cats, who do you take?
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

Grubauer easily for me, specially in cap leagues. At 3.33M, he’s a great bargain. He was among the best goaler in the league the last 2 months of the season and was dominant in the playoffs. Colorado really improve this offseason (Kadri , Burakovsky, Donskoi, Byram). I see him around 35 wins for next season!

I think the Avs take a big step forward this year. The Canucks are the Canucks. Give me Grubauer.

One question mark around Grubauer is can he be a true #1 and play enough to win 30+ games? He's never done it before, never started more than 37 games in a season.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

There are some questions around both guys but I'm going with grubsy. I think he gets a long leash this year with a rookie backup behind him. After a slow start he righted the ship last year. Not to mention there appears to be a lot more upside being on a rising Colorado team

You have ateam stat and an individual stat. I will take the team stat option guy, and go Grubauer.

    Hi VV,

Grub for sure. Colorado is gonna be a hot team. huge upside to this team. Grub will benefit greatly with the wins!

Markstrom may not even have a secure job for much longer...

    Thanks to all who responded.

I asked this question because, in a cap-saving move, I am thinking of trading my Holtby. Grubauer would give me almost $3 mil in cap savings this year and a lot more next year when Holtby gets a bump in his new contract. Is there a big drop off, if any, from Holtby to Grubauer?
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

In terms of trade value Holtby is worth a lot more right now. In actual value, Holtby still. But at the end of the year that could all change. There is a significant chance Grubauer's value shoots up to match or exceed Holtby this year. If that gamble is worth the 3m savings then do it. If you can find savings elsewhere then the safer goalie bet on ice is Holtby.

That's how I see it as well. Problem is that savings are hard to find on my team, which actually is a good problem to have. So I'm looking not so much for trade value but rather for actual performance. I know there is a lot more risk with Grubauer.

Looking past this year, it's Grubauer as well. I will say that when they were both on the Capitals, there wasn't a big drop-off, and I think talent wise, they're close enough. Grubauer's durability will be tested this year, but I expect he'll pass that test.
