    Default Fleury vs. Binnington

    For Team #1 in sig.

I’m really only concerned with next season and not so much the future. Who do you think gets more starts, wins and better average stats? What do you all make of Binnington heading into the season as a starter? Neither goalie has generated trade interest in the league so I have to decide which I am keeping and which I am dropping. I am leaning heavily towards Fleury but wanted to see if anyone on here could convince me otherwise.

It’s a good problem to have, that you have both of these guys. Keeper league, I’d want Binnington. One-year, Fleury. I’m not convinced that either G. Sparks or M. Subban will take any starts from MAF except back-to-backs, and Vegas plays in weaker Pacific division.

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

Fleury is a great option for both wins and saves, and the GAA should be decent with some upside for a good Sv% season. I like Fleury's overall profile and consistency in your situation over Binnington, who doesn't have a lengthy NHL resume.

They are close enough that I'd go Binnington. While Fleury has no competition, he gets injured too much. Even if he's better next year, I'm not convinced he'll be better by a significant margin.

I am still in the non believer camp for Binnington until I see how this year goes.

It depends heavily on Fleury's health. I think Binnington is a good bet to be healthier than Fleury, but as weak as Jake Allen is, he's a better backup than Vegas has. Fleury started over 50 for the first time in a few years last year, I think Vegas would be smart to dial that back if they can, but I don't know that they can do that and not drop off too much in quality.

Given that situation, I like them to start about the same number of games. I think Vegas's peripherals will be slightly better, so for just this year, I'd take Fleury.

I'm guessing you don't care due to a plan to draft your new keeper goalie this year?

If you look at my keepers you’ll see I have a very solid foundation to draft from and be a strong contender this year so I that is why I am only concerned with this year. I plan to go for the championship and trading in this league is very common. I can easily draft for an upgrade down the stretch or into next off season.

Looking back on this thread.... I am very surprised, that in a 12 team league where everyone can keep 11 players, nobody wanted Binnington.. But I guess everyone has reservations on Binnington just like most of us!!

It is a league where you have to keep a goalie but can only keep one. So other GM’s know that I will have to drop Binnington (or Fleury) and they can just try to draft him (or an even better goalie) rather than give up a draft pick for him. The 12 goalies kept in the league aren’t necessarily the top 12 ranked goalies as GM’s trade for goalies for the playoff push but can only keep on of them.
