Default Need Help with Direction - Ranking I guess

    Hey folks,
'Tiss the season and I've been reading some interesting things and opinions on the thread.

My league and team is in the sig.
In my opinion, my D and G situation is pretty solid, and my forwards aren't proven, well most of them, and can use some rework.

All the below, comes with the fact that I will NOT be resigning Price this year. He will likely cost me 11-13m in cap, depending on auctions.
So how do I not lose out on some goalie points (Thatcher isn't ready for fulltime) and beef up my forwards, is what I am going through.

Here are, what I believe are the top draftable rookies in our league.

    Forwards:
    STEEL Sam F
    BROWN Logan F
    HIROSE Taro F
    TEXIER Alex F
    BATHERSON Drake F

    Defense:
    HUGHES Quinn Van
    FABBRO Dante Nsh
    BEAN Jake Car
    BRANNSTROM Erik Ott

    Goalie:
    ANDERSON Craig (not rookie)
    HALAK (not rookie)
    Koskinen (not rookie)
    Schnider (not rookie)
    Varlamov (not rookie)
    Blackwood
    Binnington
    NEDELJOVIC Alex Car
    Hart

I have 8th overall pick in the first round this year, and then nothing again until the 3rd round, so my questions are for my first pick:

    1) Do I focus on Forward, Defence, or Goalie group. Some of the goalies, like Halak, Varlomov, Anderson may make their way to the 3rd round. If the answer is goalie, I assume at 8th I will have a choice between Blackwood/Nedeljovic who would you take? Or, would you draft Schneider over both of them?

    2) Can you help me rank the Forward and Defence group.

I am also looking at the hockey geek rankings and taking that into consideration...
    Salary Cap League:
    13 Team, G, A,+/-, W-2, OTL,SO-3
    30 max, 21 weekly active roster (12F, 7D, 2G)
Note: Our league is 1 year behind in terms of available players and salary. Salary doesn't change for length of Pool contract.

    Team:
    F-Trochek, Necas, J.T.Miller,McCann,Terry,Engvall, Zibanajed,mikhehev,GourdeHagel, Petterson,skinner
    D-
    Lindgren,Barrie,Forsling,.Morrisey,Aho,Ekblad,fabe r

    Hi,

Not sure I understand the rules (one year behind), does that mean that you cant draft Jack Hughes or Kappo Kakko, but you can now draft Dahlin and Kotkaniemi?

    Here's how I see things,

    Forwards:
    STEEL Sam F - 30ish, terrible +/-
BROWN Logan F - not playing this year
HIROSE Taro F - 30 with potential for much more, terrible +/-
TEXIER Alex F - dial down the hype, I say 30-40 pts, terrible +/-
BATHERSON Drake F - likely the most points of this list, probably the worst +/-

    Defense:
HUGHES Quinn Van - by far the best skater mentionned here, my pick for your pick if available
    FABBRO Dante Nsh - 30pts
BEAN Jake Car - just some games this year
BRANNSTROM Erik Ott - dial down the hype too, but he'll play and get points, maybe 15-20.

    Goalie:
ANDERSON Craig (not rookie) - do not touch
HALAK (not rookie) - wont repeat
    Koskinen (not rookie) - interested
Schnider (not rookie) - too high salary for what he'll give you but I think he's the starter until he plays himself out
Varlamov (not rookie) -I like him to give you starts, wins.
Blackwood - has potential for starter, but far from done
Binnington - a gamble I'd take without hesitations if I were you
NEDELJOVIC Alex Car - doubt he'll see much starts
Hart - your obvious pick if available

    ---

    1) Do I focus on Forward, Defence, or Goalie group. Some of the goalies, like Halak, Varlomov, Anderson may make their way to the 3rd round. If the answer is goalie, I assume at 8th I will have a choice between Blackwood/Nedeljovic who would you take? Or, would you draft Schneider over both of them?

With the names provided I would go D as I see scarcity come faster, unless Hart or Binnington is available

    2) Can you help me rank the Forward and Defence group.

I would take Hart or Binnington if either is available at your pick, that's just so much value there. If not, then Quinn Hughes. Likely those guys are gone, and if you want to go with a forward I would probably say Steel and Batherson are the best long-term options. Brannstrom is another potentially high-end defenseman, but should be a longer development with Chabot already locked into the PP1 minutes. Varlamov is another good option, I like him a lot here if everyone ahead of you goes crazy on youth.

    Yes that is correct..

The rookie would have have at least 1 game in the NHL to be available.

Does it have to be a regular season game? If not, you're missing Makar, among others.

Yes unfortunately. I should have been more specific.
