I would definitely do this deal if you can plug a cheap option like Toews off the wire or through the draft. Ovechkin at $9.5 for the next two seasons is pretty good value if you ask me.

IÂ’ve been in the league 4 years, won twice, including last year, but I enjoy tinkering every year to give myself the best chance possible.
In this deal IÂ’d be the one receiving Ovi
Right now I have 19.5 mil in cap space, but IÂ’m waiting for Point, Marner, and Werenski to sign their new deals, and theyÂ’ll most likely (99.9%) put me over the cap, so I need to make a move or two.
We cannot drop players at will in this league. Once drafted we can trade them or buy them out. The only time a player will be dropped from a team is if theyÂ’re an unsigned UFA come July 1st, meaning if I do this trade I may have Ovi for only two seasons (unless the caps extended him prior to the current contract expiring)
IÂ’m the one offering the trade. The team IÂ’m pitching this to is not a contender, and heÂ’s looking to get younger. IÂ’m probably just over valuing more own players here, but I love Werenski; heÂ’s done so well and heÂ’s still so young... but Ovi is a god with these categories... am I a fool for hesitating? If I were to pull the trigger IÂ’d be replacing Werenski during our draft, and it would be with a cheap D (2 mil AAV or less), but IÂ’m not sure who IÂ’d target, maybe Toews.

I think it's a smart preemptive move on your part, but I don't think Ovechkin is the right target.
Just spit balling numbers, obviously this can go up or down, but more likely up:
Point 10? + Marner 10? + Werenski 6? + Drouin 5.5 = 31.5
VS
Point 10? + Marner 10? + Ovechkin 9.5 = 29.5
So the trade puts you basically in the same position.
I'd target some better cap friendly contracts if you're moving out Drouin & Werenksi.
Obviously, Drouin doesn't have as much value as he did before, but packaged with Werenski you should be able to pull back a player on a great deal.

I'd want Ovie with these cats all day, every time. You'd need to find a cheap option to replace Werenski if you can get that done. Point & Marner are going to swallow all the cap space you currently have. Should have about 4m after this deal to find a Dman to replace Werenski. Assuming Marner gets 10.5 & Point gets 9m

If we estimate Werenski at 6 million, then him and Drouin be 11.5, where as Ovi and Toews would be 10.2... doesnÂ’t seem like much, but with how tight I am to the cap, it would make a difference! Plus, Ovi is a top 10 player with these cats, where as Drouin and Werenski would be in the 100-180 range.

That's a solid deal, if it works. Ovechkin is elite, and the other two are not, and in Droin's case, never will be.
