Last player to protect

Hello everyone,

I have to protect my last player (10th) for the next season and I must say that the RFA situation of this summer complicate a little bit the situation.
There was and expansion draft and we had to protect 9 players at first, the new GM do his 10th selection and we after that protect our last 10 player.
So we know what was protected by other GMs now

Here is my actual team : Keller, Barkov, Pastrnak, Eichel, Aho, Rakell, Ghost, Chabot, Pietrangelo
Farm team : B. Tkachuk, D. Strome, Heiskanen, Necas, Hart
Total salary cap : $52,791,776 (max $93,725,000)

I need to protect one more player from that list :
Forward : K. Connor (RFA), Seguin (9.85m), E. Staal (3.25m), Tarasenko (7.5m), Konecny (RFA), P. Kane (10.5m)
Def : Werenski (RFA), McAvoy (RFA), E. Karlsson (11.5m), Doughty (11m), Klefbom (4.167m)
Goalies : F. Andersen (5m)

I hesitate between those players :
- Andersen : Good contract and 2 years left. The only bad thing of this selection is the fact that in our 7 GM league, only 2 goalies are protected (Vasilevskiy and Dubnyk). 5 others goalies will be selected in that list : Andersen (5m), Murray (3.75m), Jones (5.75m), Bishop (4.9m), Binnington (4.4m), Holtby (6.1m), Hellebuyck (6.2m), Gibson (6.4m) and Fleury (7m). Using one of my protection for a good goalie yes with Andersen but I can draft a good one later in the draft... And yes I don't know why one GM protected Dubnyk
- Werenski : Here we have the complete reverse situation with the defensemen, a lot GMs protected their Dman and what's left his not really interesting on the market (Giordano, Theodore, Byfuglien, Weber, Ristolainen, Pulock, Hamilton, Faulk). I don't know how much Werenski will have but I read that it will be over 7m$... I need to give my 10th protection before August 10th so I need to gamble his salary if I protect him.
- Kane : He was one of my best player last year and I would protect him without hesitation if it wasn't his 10.5m$. There is a lot of big contract player available (for example : Marner, Tavares, Matthews).
- E. Staal : Here is a safe pick with his little contract for 2 years and the fact that he will have the first line and first PP. Domi, Renhart and Johnsson are not selected yet and have comparable contract.

What his your favorite between those four (you can suggest another player if you want)

Personally I think I would protect Andersen. If you lock up your #1 G, you can aim for a high production low contract player early while others are looking to get a G.

Of course you know your league better than I, so that might not be a viable strategy.

I think you are almost forced to go with Andersen as Dubnyk is your 2nd goalie right now!!

Maybe my sentence was confusing but I wanted to say that only 2 others GMs have protected their goalies in our league and those goalies was Vasilevskyi and Dubnyk

I’d keep Andersen. He’s a consistently strong performer at a better value than the other big names. It also balances you’re keeps out nicely so you won’t need to necessarily chase after a goalie right away.

Andersen. You start 1G and you are looking up one of the best who is on a great contract for the next two years.

I didn't lose anybody because our rules didn't oblige the new GM to take a minimum of one player per team.
It seems that Andersen is the right choice haha thank you guys!!

you'll miss Andersen the most from your list of options. You pretty well have to protect him.

Instead of Vasilevskyi, every other goalies was unprotected for the expansion.
I took a chance and it paid. For now, only me with Andersen and another GM with Dubnyk protected a goalie with our 10th spot

I have the first draft pick and will take Jack Hughes, but I also have the 7th pick.
It's certain that the 2nd pick gonna be Kakko so only 4 other players will be gone after that.
