    Default Sorting out my defense issues

    This one is for the league in my sig. It's points only, but I am essentially required to start at least 2 defensemen from the same team as my starting goalie. Not doing so is basically a sure loss, barring a goalie shutout or giving up only 1 goal with an amazing offense.

    Right now, I need to address the offseason shuffle. As you can see I have plenty of offensive defenders, but need guys on specific teams.

    My goalies:
    TOR - Andersen
    WAS - Holtby
    FLA - Bobrovsky

    My defenders:
    TOR- Reilly
    WAS - Carlson
    FLA - (none)

    CBJ - Werenski
    CHI - Gustafsson
    DAL - Klingberg
    OTT - Hainsey (will drop, only rostered to Gardiner injury late last year)
    PHI - Gostisbehere
    PIT - Letang, Schultz
    UFA - Gardiner

    Relevant D on other rosters:
    TOR - Barrie, Muzzin
    FLA - Yandle, Ekblad
    WAS - (none)

    There's slim pickings available freely, except Orlov, but that means starting Holtby. I can probably trade for Muzzin, as he's now a spare part on the team with Quick, and that guy also has Murray. Barrie is likely unobtainable, and the Panthers duo is on a team that is hard to deal with due to a lack of fit, I'd be more likely to deal him Bobrovsky, honestly. Every starting golie that matches a defender I have is rostered except from Columbus & Ottawa, and I want no parts of those creases right now.

    Do either of these proposals seem reasonably fair:
    Muzzin for JT Miller
    Muzzin, Chabot for JT Miller, Letang, and Schultz

    Thanks in advance for reading, and for any replies.

    Is there something missing from your sig/scoring? Why is it so important to start D/G on the same team? Feel like I'm missing something obvious...

    It's part of the league rules, that are too complicated to put in my sig. Essentially, goalies get the following SV% penalty/bonus based on number of D:

    0 = -0.05
    1 = -0.05
    2 = 0
    3 = +0.01
    4 = +0.02
    5 = +0.03
    6 = +0.05

    Goalies stop opposition goals directly, and the better goalie saves 1 goal for each 0.03 of SV%, so playing less than 1 essentially means spotting your opponent a 2 goal lead.

    I probably need to simply not ever ask for advice about this league, honestly.

    Hah, wow, cool league. Also, mind ****.

    That said, seems like it's basically two separate trades considering Muzzin for Miller is part of both?

    Muzzin for JT Miller

    And then

    Chabot for Letang/Schultz

    Personally I think Miller for Muzzin probably makes sense considering you're using a bench player to fill a pretty important hole in your lineup. Miller's definitely in for a bigger role in Van, but even if he bumps someone from your starting lineup, it'll be a revolving door. Probably replaceable?

    Chabot for Letang/Schultz is harder to sort out. 55 points from a 22 year old D is epic, but Letang does that in his sleep/while having a stroke. I can totally see why buddy would want Letang/Schultz though with Murray... can you squeeze him for more?

    I don't hate the Miller for Muzzin deal. Hard to say what Miller will do in Vancouver but right now, it looks fair for both.

    Muzzin for JT Miller is what I would do.

    I'd also look at the much cheaper option of trying to acquire Mike Matheson Fla.

    I agree here. I think Matheson is in for a big bounce back under a new system and good goaltending.

    Matheson's on waivers, so that's easy, but the problem with acquiring Matheson is he only gets me halfway to what I need. I need to grab a true FLA scrub goalie.

    Chabot & Muzzin are on the same team, so once the season rolls over, I can aim for getting that deal done. If I only hadn't tossed Pettersson back after drafting him the year he was drafted. Ugh.

    Miller is going to have a monster season! Every single time he steps on the ice he is going to have all star line mates. I see him getting 19+ mins per night. Miller + talent + opportunity = career year.

    As a Canucks fan, I definitely appreciate your enthusiasm, even if I don't share your optimism :P Unless they bring back Bure, Linden, and the West Coast Express, there's probably gonna be a lot of times he steps on the ice with just a touch less than all-star talent.

    Either this, or just picking up Orlov would be my preferences. I think Holtby is actually in for a monster season with the contract year and all.
