With Kinkaid no longer in the team Blackwood should see more playing time. But since Schneider returned from injury on February 8th, he started 17 games, Blackwood 10. I expect Schneider to be the starter on game 1 but I could see the goaltending situation in New Jersey more like 1a and 1b. More like a 48-34 split in Schneiders favor.

The crease is Schneiders to lose, and he will get plenty of opportunities to lose it. Coming off the hip surgery, it took him a while to get back to form, but down the stretch last year, he was starting to look like the Schneider of old. I'm not saying Schneider will play 60+ games this year, but I wont be surprised to see him play more than Blackwood.
Todays NHL isn't about having a goalie who plays 70+ games anymore. It's about having a solid 1-2 punch that can both carry the load. I think NJ has an "ok" duo to do that. I just think Schneider is the "1" in the "1-2" punch with Blackwood being the 2.

Me thinks Schneider's injury woes continue on the same trend. I think it ends up being 1a/1b where both play around the same amount of games.
I do agree I think Schneider will be given every opportunity to keep his net, but I just think he wont be able to sustain it. Blackwood will get his good share amount of games.

Schneider will get the chance to hold #1 but wont be a lopsided start ratio..

I expect Schneider will get looks, especially early. Not sure how his body will hold up and how good he can be over a full season. He finished the year on a good run though.

I'm expecting Blackwood to basically split the games with Schneider, due to some sort of injury. I'd look for high 30's from both, and a few started by a #3 goalie.

What has Blackwood ever done to earn half the starts? NHL games played when your team is more than a dozen points out of a playoff spot are not relevant. He will be lucky to be the full time back up this season.
Schneider is the best choice here by a long ways.

And besides the contract..what exactly has Schneider done to deserve that 'long ways' gap..i mean that sparkling winning..i meam losing streak he was on for a decent stretch must have really solidified that...

Cory Schneider has the 9th best save percentage and the 21st best goals against average among all goalies in the history of the NHL. He also had hip surgery in May of 2018 after dealing with the injury for the previous year or more.
Outside of that, Schneider has not done anything to prove that he's an NHL starting goalie.

Blackwood played reasonably well in the NHL, allowing them to trade away the old backup goalie. Schneider has some injury issues, so I simply figure Blackwood has stay decent & be healthier than Schneider.
